Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah East.
Hi Noah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, music has been the foundation of my life. I was born in Tarzana, California, to two amazing parents. My mother, from Compton, CA, overcame many obstacles and graduated from UCLA to become a medical doctor. By witnessing her journey, I learned the important values of perseverance and resilience—qualities that would help me forge my own path in life.
My father, from Philadelphia, PA, moved to Los Angeles at the age of 22 to pursue a career as a bass guitarist. From then on, he became a part of so much great music, working with artists like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Eric Clapton. As I was growing up, he was always gracious in exposing me to all this music, whether it was letting me be a fly on the wall in a studio session or bringing me along to one of his concerts. I realized early on that this was a path I wanted to follow as well.
There was a piano in the house, and I naturally gravitated toward it at the age of four. My father soon discovered that I had perfect pitch and enrolled me in piano lessons, encouraging me to keep learning. I spent the next decade of my life improving and falling more in love with my craft.
After high school, I was faced with the decision of balancing my commitment to music with pursuing higher education. Since both of my parents were graduates of the University of California, San Diego, they encouraged me to continue my education as well. I was admitted to the University of California, Berkeley, and I simply couldn’t pass up that opportunity.
Having been surrounded by music my entire life, I decided to major in business, believing that knowledge would be a huge asset in the ever-changing music industry. In 2022, I graduated and moved back to Los Angeles to pursue my career as a musician. I’ve been blessed to perform around the world and play music with some of the very heroes I grew up listening to.
The most fulfilling part of my journey happened this year: I released my debut album—a duo project with my father. My journey is still in its early stages, and I know I have a long way to go as a musician, but I don’t let a moment pass without feeling immense gratitude for how far I’ve come and for the opportunity to do what I love every day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a session and touring pianist and organist, and it was not until only recently that the organ became an important part of my life. In 2020, during the height COVID-19 pandemic, I was spending a lot of time at home trying new things to stay busy. I have always been interested in learning how to play the organ, and figured that this was the best time to do that. With the help of my family and a good friend, I was gifted with the best present I ever received, a Hammond B3 Organ. I spent countless hours at home learning the instrument, practicing, and listening to some of my heroes like Billy Preston and Jimmy Smith. Ever since then, the organ has been a significant part of my sound and my identity as a musician. It is featured on my debut album, a duo project with my father, which I am now on the road performing live.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always open and eager to be involved in new musical collaborations. Feel free to say hello to me on social media or YouTube, or listen to me on your desired streaming platform!
