Today we’d like to introduce you to Noa Wolff.
Hi Noa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a 20-year-old actress and singer-songwriter from the Netherlands. Growing up, I was always singing, dancing and acting around the house. My parents saw how passionate I was about it and initially put me in ballet classes at age four. But when my parents saw how comfortable I was on stage, in school productions and ballet, they decided to put me in theatre classes as well. I quit ballet after a year or two, but theatre stuck.
I did all types of productions in theatre growing up, from comedies to dramas to operas, I loved it all. I also realized how much I loved the singing aspect of it and decided to take that more seriously. My high school put on a lot of events where people could showcase their talent, so I made sure to sing at all of them. After a little while, I also joined a high school band. In that band, I performed mostly rock songs, while on my own I sang slow ballads. Throughout high school, I kept going back and forth between this being a hobby or actually pursuing it. At age 16, I finally realized that there’s nothing else I wanted to do besides acting and singing-songwriting. I went to Google, looked up ‘best acting schools in LA’ and decided to go for it. I made sure to finish my school, so I had two years left, but I was so excited to know where I was going to go right after!
In these last 2 years of school, I kept performing as much as I could and wrote multiple songs. When it was finally time to go to LA, COVID, unfortunately, kept me in the Netherlands a little longer.
When the borders opened, I went to LA in December 2021 to see how I’d like it. Since I was finished with high school, I had a lot of free time and decided to go for three months on a tourist visa. Well, I immediately loved it. Through other people, I heard of the wonderful programs UCLA Extension offers and decided to study ‘Entertainment Studies’ there. In this program, I learn about directing, writing, cinematography, acting, producing, etc. Getting this all-around knowledge of the entertainment field is so interesting and beneficial for my career, I’ve been loving every minute of it. However, since I’m mostly focused on acting, I wanted training specifically for that too. So I started training at the Baron Brown Studio, where they teach me the Meisner technique. It’s a wonderful studio where I have already grown so much and can’t wait to keep growing.
Right now, I’m working on as many projects as possible, like collaborating with other artists on songs and films, releasing my music soon, submitting short films to festivals, etc.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road definitely wasn’t smooth and still isn’t, but I’m enjoying it as I go. Moving across the world leaving family and friends behind was probably the hardest part. Not having my parents right here with me to help with last-minute decisions, not having my brother here to laugh with, not having any friends to get a coffee and some girl talk with. Luckily, I do have some family here, which I’m very grateful for, as well as friends now who I’ve made over the past year.
Balancing school and focusing on my career is also a struggle, still to this day, especially as an international student. On my F1 visa, I can only work on unpaid projects, which comes with its limitations. But I’m grateful to be here and am working on as much as I can while also focusing on gaining as much knowledge as I can.
The last one I’ll mention is the toll a move like this takes on your mental health. Moving here and throwing myself into the entertainment field definitely came with a lot of anxiety which I’m slowly but surely learning how to deal with.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work? What are some projects you’re known for, what projects are you most proud of and what sets you apart from others?
As mentioned before, I’m an actress and singer-songwriter. I’m not really known for much yet, since I just recently started focusing on this as my career. I’ve mostly done theatre growing up, so I don’t have much to show from then, but in the time I’ve lived in LA, I have made projects that I’m proud of. The one I’m most proud of is a short film, The Fading Winter, that I just submitted to the UCLA Film Festival. It’s about a woman (me) who reminisces about an old love who passed away while she’s walking around a trail where she used to go to with him. Some other things I’m proud of are my songs. I specialize in slow pop ballads, mostly ‘sad love songs’. I have some finished songs that I’m planning on releasing as soon as possible, and I’m very excited for the world to hear them. My proudest moment in my singing career is being reposted by Alicia Keys! I sang her song, ‘A Woman’s Worth’, and posted it on TikTok. On the anniversary of that song’s release, she reposted my video, alongside others, on her TikTok and Instagram accounts.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to resonate with others through my art. I allow people to live vicariously through my art and feel the emotions. Another thing is my young age range for acting with an older maturity level.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just want to share for anyone who’s reading this and has the same dreams as me: go for it! Take the leap and do what you love. I have 0 regrets because I know that I’m working on what I love and am passionate about. As long as you’re doing that, you’ll be alright. 🙂
