Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicholas Spratlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Spratlin.

Nicholas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For me it started after graduating high school. That’s when my love of photography started and when I first picked up the camera. I did a lot of self teaching and growing on my own in the real world because I didn’t go to college at first. I learned everything thur trail and error and slowly over time I finally went to Georgia State University where I majored in Film and Media.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road in any sense of the word. I’ve had ups and downs with trying to find work and dealing with the struggles of being freelance it can be crushing. So I had to learn how to take the falls and bumps and get back up and keep moving.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cinematographer that has been working on smaller projects just building up to land those bigger clients. I would say I specialize in film (drama and thriller) and ad work. I am most proud of the feature film we just finished called Ashes Never Rest because it was my first feature and I see a lot where I could grow at and get better. I think what sets me apart is how I can see and shoot a scene to really elevate the mood and push a certain feeling involving the shots, lighting, prop placement and location.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is when you have a chance to see weeks and months of hard work on a screen and know that the story you helped shape is going to touch somebody soul somewhere on this planet. That’s what makes me happy.
