Today we’d like to introduce you to Nae Williams.
Hi Nae, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Yainea “Nae” Williams. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Leimert Park to be specific. I’m currently a Global Creative Coordinator at Forever 21. I recently took a leap of faith and started my own brand Real LA @shoprealla on Instagram. Real LA is brand based out of the heart of Los Angeles. Inspired by the true cities and eras that makes the LA culture so unique. Our pieces are made for true LA natives but welcomes everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all but I appreciate it. I truly believe without trials and tribulations, you wouldn’t be able to really seize the moment and enjoy it once it happens. Going through everything I have in life has molded me into the woman I am today and I couldn’t be any more grateful for the bumps in the road. On this journey, I’ve realized my faith in not only myself but God has gotten a lot stronger.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At forever 21, I started out working in the Starbucks the company had in the building and after being there for three years, I just thought it was time for a change. As I was putting in my notice to leave, HR let me know they wanted to interview me for a position in the company. A sample coordinator role for ecomm. Fast forward to four years later, I now handle all woman’s clothing that is being uploaded on online. My job is to make sure each item is ready to be uploaded on the website before units hit the warehouse and are ready to be sold. Making sure we have the photoshoots, the models and the images all goes into my job.
My job has lead me into so many other things like digital producing, assist in styling and just being a creative.
On the side, I assist and help manage up and coming artists from BlacCollar Ent. Where I’m able to put all my talents to use. I love being able to be reliable and there when needed. Being known for getting things accomplished is a great feeling.
Creating my own brand “Real LA” this year has really taught me so much about myself that I may have doubted. So far, this has to be the most thing I’m proud of. I’m so used to helping and making sure everyone else has what they need and are good and just for once making sure I have what I want to be happy feels really good. I always come with ideas and may not always follow through but with Real LA something in me wouldn’t let me give up. I have an amazing support system and close circle of friends and I just would love to thank them for holding me accountable.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family & friends mean the most to me. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today literally. My family has saved me and installed so many great lessons inside of me, I am forever grateful for. My friends have been by my side rain or shine and some have been my friends so long, we are family.
Being genuinely happy means the most to me as well. With 2020, I believe we all learned a few things from the whole lockdown and seeing how much life changed in a blink of an eye, I learned to do what truly makes me happy no matter what cause honestly anything can happen. Going for my goals and dreams to be successful all falls into my happiness.
