Today we’d like to introduce you to Myrandas.
Hi Myrandas, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m happy to share our journey with you. Our project was founded in Havana by Cuban musician/ Grammy-winning engineer Marciel Miranda and myself, a singer of Armenian origin, Kristina Miranda. In 2010, I left my hometown of Moscow to join Marciel in Havana, forming the core of our musical project. Our early music revolved around our experiences, from living on the island to relocating to the United States, and it also addressed various social issues.
In 2016, we decided to take our music overseas and settled in the vibrant city of Los Angeles. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and evolve as artists, performing at renowned LA venues and participating in local festivals such as Echo Park Rising and Mar Vista Music & Art Walk. While we started as a rock band (aka High Grass) in 2022, emerging from the pandemic, we decided to venture into Latin music. We embraced the roots of the Caribbean in our new compositions, creating uplifting songs that invite people to dance, and introduced our new sound to audiences at NextFest at the LA County Fair in 2022. This summer we released our debut Spanish single, ‘Cuando Te Vi’.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our journey has been rewarding, but it’s important to acknowledge the challenges we’ve faced, as they’ve shaped our path in profound ways.
As an isolated country, Cuba presents unique hurdles. It has limited resources, including a lack of music equipment and heavy censorship. It wasn’t until 2015 that the general public gained access to the Internet. Despite these constraints, our determination led us to build a home studio where we recorded our music. We never ceased to dream, even when it seemed like the odds were against us. These obstacles only fueled our resolve.
Another significant challenge we faced was the transition from our established identity as a rock band to delving into the Latin Urban genre. It required us to redefine our musical style and gauge the audience’s response to our new sound. Personally, I was uncertain about how I, as an artist, would find my place in this new direction. However, we’ve always viewed challenges as invaluable opportunities for growth and reinvention. We wanted to experiment and do something different, so we decided not to follow any rules but instead follow our creative instincts. With the support of Marciel and our shared creative vision, this transition became one of the most exhilarating decisions we’ve ever made as a band. It’s through overcoming these challenges we’ve evolved and discovered our unique voice in the music world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a Latin Urban band. Drawing inspiration from artists like Rosalía, Bomba Estéreo, Tainy, and Bad Bunny, we bring unforgettable energy to the stage with Latin grooves and a fresh touch of urban and pop genres. Alongside Cuban-Puerto Rican percussionist Richard Herrera, we have performed as a trio at popular tropical, dance, and Afro-Latin music events in LA, including the renowned Subsuelo Sundays and La Junta. We aim to offer a distinct take on the Latin Urban genre. Unlike the solo artist approach, our rendition adds a unique flavor through the band’s representation.
Released this summer, our debut Spanish single, ‘Cuando Te Vi,’ received global support from publications such as LeFutureWave, Roadie Music, Bravo Revista, Zona Emergente, Purple Melon, and Passioni Musicali. This encouragement has boosted our confidence, and we can’t wait to share more music with our listeners. Next month, we will release our second single, ‘Con Una Flor’.
What matters most to you? Why?
We truly believe in the extraordinary power of music to transcend boundaries and bring people together. Every time we step on stage or share a new song, it’s a chance to create a fresh, unforgettable experience, one that we hope brings immense joy to our listeners.
On this journey, we’ve had to make significant sacrifices, none more profound than the time spent away from our families back in our hometowns. It’s this deep sense of responsibility and longing to not only make them proud but also to contribute to making the world a slightly better place that fuels our passion and commitment to music.
