Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Carrasco.
Hi Mikey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born a free thinker, raised in a strict religious environment. The suppression instilled in me a desire to self-express, and that’s the tool I’m most grateful for to this day. Fortunately, I was able to make a career out of art, otherwise, I don’t know where I’d be. Probably not somewhere good.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I think the road should always be a bit rough. The second we’re born we’re forced to deal with discomfort in order to survive. Making art is a daily reminder of that lesson. There’s something to facing discomfort and embracing the bumpy road.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m currently a tattoo artist working in my private studio “One Dead Rose” in Highland Park. I specialize in Black&Gray. Everything from horror/gothy realism to delicate/cute soft stuff. I love it all. I also make a lot of personal art. I don’t worry about what sets me apart. I just do what I’m passionate about and I think people can sense passion. The fact that I can make something from my soul and it resonates with people is one of the most intensely beautiful feelings, it’s beyond words.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just do the work and be honest with yourself. I believe in focusing all attention on being your best self. It puts you on a positive path that leads to opportunities and reaching your highest potential. Cheesy but so true 🙂
