Daily Inspiration: Meet MICHELLE SANDERS

Today we’d like to introduce you to MICHELLE SANDERS

Hi MICHELLE, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At just 19 years old, I packed up my dreams and moved to California after someone told me, *“The best hair comes out of there.”* Fresh out of cosmetology school, I was eager to dive into the beauty industry and build a life doing what I loved most—creating confidence through great hair.

Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of building a loyal clientele on the Westside of Los Angeles while working in a warm, family-oriented salon that felt like home—especially meaningful since my own family was back East. Alongside my salon work, I also provided house calls, styling everyone from everyday women to high-profile clients in the comfort of their own homes.

When the pandemic hit, everything shifted. My husband and I purchased our first home, and I made the heartfelt decision to bring my business closer to where we live. I wanted to be more present for my children, involved in their schools, and deeply connected to our community. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

In just one year, my books were full again—this time with amazing moms and neighbors from right here in the community. I found a new passion in specializing in luxurious, low-maintenance hair tailored specifically for busy moms and working women who want to feel effortlessly polished.

Having my own private studio gave me the space to reset and refine every aspect of my business. I took the opportunity to not only elevate my services but also partner with Halo Couture Extensions for those who want a little extra glam for special events or conferences. I began hosting monthly **Beauty Pop-Up Events** in collaboration with a makeup artist, where we help women rediscover their beauty tools and routines—empowering them to feel confident and radiant for their next work event or celebration.

What started as a dream to do great hair has evolved into something so much more meaningful: creating a space where women feel seen, beautiful, and empowered.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced in my career was the long daily commute from Hawthorne to Brentwood—often spending up to an hour and a half in the car each day. At the same time, I was navigating life with a husband who traveled frequently for work and two small children who needed me. I was constantly rushing from one place to the next, and over time, the nonstop pace took a toll. I found myself completely burnt out.

To make matters harder, I experienced the loss of two family members during that period, but I had no space or time to properly process the grief. That’s when it became clear: I needed to create more room in my life—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.

I began seeking support through business classes and mastermind groups, which helped me reevaluate my priorities, care for my mental health, and start building a new path forward. I remember vividly one moment that shifted everything: I found a quiet room at Burke Williams Spa—pitch black and perfectly still—and sat there for an over an hour. It was the most peaceful hour I’d had in years. I walked out thinking, “Why aren’t there more spaces like this for moms to reset and recharge?”

That’s when it clicked—I didn’t just want to do hair. I wanted to create a business that offered that same sense of peace, presence, and restoration. A space where women, especially moms, could feel cared for, heard, and refreshed—inside and out.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My favorite part of what I do is creating hair color and cuts that truly transform my clients—bringing out an elevated version of themselves without the pressure of high-maintenance salon visits. I’ve come to really understand how many roles women juggle, and how valuable their time is. That’s why I focus on giving them looks with maximum longevity—styles and color that grow out seamlessly and still look amazing months later.

I specialize in gray blending and color techniques that help eliminate that frustrating 3-to-5-week regrowth line. It’s something I’m truly obsessed with perfecting—finding ways to help women feel confident in their hair without constantly needing touch-ups.

What really sets me apart is that every visit isn’t just about the service—it’s an opportunity to teach. I love sharing styling tips and tools, showing my clients how to enhance their look at home with ease. Whether it’s a quick technique or a new tool, I want them to leave not only looking great but feeling empowered to recreate the look on their own.

What makes me most proud is when guests return after three to six months and their hair still looks and feels incredible. They come in excited for a refresh—not desperate for a fix. That’s when I know I’ve done my job right. Helping women build a hair routine that works for their lifestyle, boosts their confidence, and feels effortless—that’s the heart of my work.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along my journey is that we have to take care of ourselves first in order to truly show up for the people we love. Self-care and intentional resets are essential—especially for moms and working women who are constantly balancing the needs of others. I often remind my guests that we have to put on our own oxygen masks first. When we’re running on empty, we can’t give our best to anyone else. Feeling depleted shouldn’t be the norm—we deserve better. Prioritizing our well-being isn’t selfish, it’s necessary, and it’s something I’m passionate about encouraging in the women who sit in my chair.
