Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Monique
Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been a photographer for over half my life now, with my journey beginning at 14 years old in San Francisco. Growing up, I was captivated by the show ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and for me photography was the ultimate outlet for creative expression. I was inspired to push creative boundaries, experimenting with out-of-this-world concepts and fashion that bordered on fantasy, often collaborating with friends and family to bring my visions to life.
By 18, my work had started catching the attention of clients, leading me to officially launch my business. While I initially explored various genres of photography, I discovered that beauty and cosmetic photography resonated with me the most. I focused on building a strong beauty portfolio and eventually moved to Los Angeles to immerse myself in the industry.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with brands including Lancôme, Maybelline, Kylie Cosmetics, Neutrogena, Patrick Ta, and Fenty, among many others.
I absolutely love what I do – beauty photography is my passion and I’ve had the privilege to meet so many incredible people and had so many wonderful experiences because of this career.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I’ve learned that with patience and the right perspective, I’ve found peace with any outcome. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. While rejection has been part of my journey, it has often led to even greater opportunities in the end. If you’re ever feeling discouraged, just remember that setbacks can sometimes pave the way for something even better.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a commercial photographer specializing in beauty and cosmetics, with a focus on creating imagery that refreshes and elevates brands. My work strikes a balance between timeless elegance and modern relevance—avoiding fleeting trends while remaining current and impactful.
What I love most about my craft is photographing women and witnessing their excitement when they see themselves in a way they’ve never experienced before. It’s a privilege to capture that moment of transformation and confidence.
I’m also proud that, no matter what I’ve achieved, I’ve remained true to myself. The kindness and inclusion I brought to my work when I first started continue to define me today.
