Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Odermatt
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Michael Odermatt (“MiKey”) and my story begins and ends with the piano. However, there is more color in there. I have always been fascinated by this instrument, especially the keys. Because – if not played – a single key by itself would never reveal the sound it produces. Or the harmony it could create when combined with other keys. The piano has always been my first love. Even though it took me years to figure out that the piano was “what I needed to do” in my life. I searched too far to find my life’s purpose – I traveled to the other side of the world: from my birth country Switzerland to Hawaii. The piano has accompanied me since I was six years old. For me it is a natural extension. Without it I feel incomplete. There are parts of me, thoughts, dreams and wisdom within me that I can only express through the piano.
I am so grateful that my parents supported me throughout my childhood with private lessons and a piano at home. However, studying classical piano came with a lot of challenges – the biggest of which was my curiosity to personally get to know the composers behind their classic pieces such as Beethoven and Mozart. I had so many questions for them about the music they had composed. It was really hard for me to understand that they would never be answered… For me, music has always been more than just notes in a book. I’m curious about what everything sounds like, like feelings, people, dreams. I am very aware of the “soundtrack of life.”
I had a pretty difficult childhood growing up with my mentally disabled sister. Life presented many challenges for her and that brought many struggles and dramas for my parents. As her three years younger brother, I had no idea how to help her. When there were arguments, shouting and blame, I sat in my room at the piano and played. I didn’t know what else to do but close my eyes and play from the bottom of my heart with the intention to help my sister and parents with the music. Then I felt safe and comforted. The music I played was my anchor. I felt encouraged to continue playing over the years. And today I am very proud that my parents are still together (they are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year) and that my sister has overcome her mental disability and now lives a good and independent life.
My piano teacher did not encourage my “intuitive piano playing” and forced me to stick with the classical training. I tried hard to be a good student, but access to the classical world of music became more and more difficult over the years as my intuition opened up more and more.
For 12 years now, I have been fortunate to work professionally as an intuitive pianist and to perform “out of intuition” all over the world together with the intuitive singer Saskia Stäuble, professionally known as “Dusty”. We met in 2012 in my hometown of Lucerne, Switzerland, and began our journey as “Dust of Soul”. Saskia showed me the first song she wrote on a park bench in Central Park, New York, shortly after the very unusual brain stroke she survived a few weeks before we met. It was her wake-up call and the opening of her channel to “channeling” music.
Surprisingly, when I heard the voice memo, I recognized this melody! I played this melody in my childhood. She had shown her vocal recording to many instrumentalists before me, but no one picked up on her “vocal vibration”. That’s why she was skeptical when I told her. Two days later we went to my rehearsal studio and I played for her. Saskia cried for 20 minutes. It was exactly what she heard inside. Great!
Since then we have traveled around the world together with our suitcases. Our most fascinating opportunity was to perform our song dedicated to the Sultan of Oman to the Royal Family on the occasion of the 48th Oman National Day at the Amphitheater in Muscat. Saskia performed the song as well a cappella live on the Omani Breakfast TV show. Then we were performing for MTV India as the first Swiss to ever to be featured for “MTV Unplugged”. Later, we created a music video with children and young people in the Dharavi of Mumbai.
Now I am in Los Angeles (we felt “called” to come here) channeling soul songs with Dusty for groups and in individual sessions. So much has happened, but it feels like my story is just beginning…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have always been very fortunate in life, healthy and hopeful. But I struggled a lot in music. More precisely, as a musician. Although I participated in choirs for years and successfully led various musical groups and bands, I never had the feeling that I belonged there. I felt different everywhere. And I knew I shouldn’t feel that way. Therefore, I focused my energy more on my studies and my career as a businessman. My interests were everywhere, but nowhere a thousand percent. I found solace in music again and applied to enter the music academy. I worked hard, but a car accident just days before the audition caused my health to become so poor that I dropped out of the audition process. I decided to travel to San Francisco to learn English and began to realize more about myself and what felt right about me.
When I met Saskia about two years later, I immediately knew: “This is it”. It all made sense. The wait was worth it. But it presented the “real challenge.” Because once you “get it,” you have to “keep it” and “do it” consistently, no matter what. Over the last 12 years, I have faced all sorts of challenges, such as existential fears, real threats and death threats, harassment, etc. It wasn’t easy to “hang in there”, but I knew I had to “do it anyway” and go through it. This created a completely new, unique way for “Dust of Soul” and we celebrated many successes and received recognition and awards for our work from early on.
I have never done anything for so long in my life. I learned that challenges are necessary to grow. I need them to reach a higher frequency to solve a problem. In the end, all these problems helped me reach my higher vibration. This realization makes me grateful for almost everything I have experienced in my life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I channel soul songs with my piano while psychic medium and singer Saskia (“Dusty”) channels melodies and lyrics. We perform a voice-piano session together as “Dust of Soul” tuned to the healing frequency of 432 Hertz. After the performance we give a soul message reading based on the images Dusty receives and the impressions I feel with my piano. Sometimes there are messages from the other side or something from the past or future or from the here and now. The soul song reveals what the soul needs right now. We channel the soul song in the soul frequency, record the performance and share it so that you can always align with your soul frequency when you need to make an important decision for your life or feel insecure. The “Intuitive Music Reading” session is just the opening. Listening to the soul song will literally transform your experience. Because there are many situations in which the body gets stuck and needs to release blockages. Listening to the soul song helps here, because the body’s cells pick up the vibrations and memorize them over time. This is how your soul song brings your whole body into your soul frequency. You feel healthy, powerful and yourself!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I feel like any experience is possible in Los Angeles. I see Los Angeles as my spiritual teacher, constantly reminding me to raise my awareness and consciously choose the frequency at which I want to vibrate. Unlike other cities, I can easily get lost in the frequencies here because the energy changes so quickly, even from block to block. I try to observe myself to vibrate at my highest frequency because when that frequency is accessible, I can tune into it. Then I am more aware and can navigate with my intuition, which actually led me to Los Angeles. And I am very grateful for that.
