Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Devorzon
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Los Angeles and raised in Santa Barbara. I moved back to LA in 1994 to go to work in production for the television show “Melrose Place” After 3 years in production, I did my first role on screen and left production to pursue acting full time. I went on to work as an actor on numerous television shows, movies as well as commercials.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an actor. I was fascinated by actor Peter Sellers in “The Pink Panther” as well as Jackie Gleason in “Smokey and the Bandit”
I grew up around the entertainment business, my father is a Grammy winning and Oscar nominated songwriter, music composer. He had a home studio and was always working on a score for a tv show or movie when I was a kid. When I was 8 years old, I remember, Sylvester Stallone came to our house, I just couldn’t get over that Rocky was sitting in our living room!
In recent years, I took up screenwriting and really fell in love with it. This year, I wrote and produced 3 feature films which has been an incredible experience. I feel very at home behind the camera and feel like I’m really able to utilize my gifts.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road lol. I was always a bit wild and rebellious and loved visiting the other side of the railroad tracks. I lived the party lifestyle and eventually that catches up with you and gets you in trouble. I retired from that lifestyle 15 years ago and it’s been a great new adventure and now, I wait for the lights to turn green before I go.
I have also struggled with mental and physical health challenges and I have had to learn to keep going no matter what and play hurt. The practice has been learning to weather the storms of my life to get to brighter days. Everything changes, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I mentioned, I wrote and produced 3 movies this year and right now I am focused on specializing in the Thriller genre.
As an actor, I usually play more dramatic roles and have been lucky enough to play both the hero and the villain.
What I am most proud of is starting with an idea, developing it, writing the script and then taking it and making a movie and being involved in every step of the process.
What’s next?
I want to continue writing and producing films, maybe get in there and direct one of them, If an acting role comes along that is a great fit, that would be wonderful, otherwise making an appearance in the movies I write would be cool.
I’m an avid Pickleball player so I always like to imagine lots of games in my future.
I plan on doing some traveling, go somewhere tropical, quiet and just unwind.
