Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Alvarado.
Hi Mia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started making videos on my phone of me and my friends whenever we would go out. These videos were about 10-15 seconds and I applied music that we liked listening to over it. After reconnecting with a friend from high school who was making her way into the industry I was lucky enough to be brought on a set as a behind the scenes videographer. From that day forward I started networking and was invited to other editorial shoots afterward.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing good comes easy. This is a difficult industry to get into because it comes with sacrifices and a lot of the time you’re being paid by experience which goes a long way. It requires patience and not getting caught up in comparison. Being true to yourself is something I like to constantly remind myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a videographer and for the most part behind the scenes videographer. What I am most confident and proud of is my video editing. I have a lot to learn but that is my strongest suit as of right now. I think what might set me apart from others is that I try not to follow trends or make alterations to my style because of what’s hot at the moment.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe that you should take as many risk as you can while you’re young. When other people ask me what drives me to go out and do the work that I do, I say it’s because I have nothing to lose right now. You can never lose by trying but you can by not trying. At first I felt like it was a risk getting myself into this industry as a college student because I didn’t want it to take away my focus on studying. However, I think that hands on experience has taught me so much.
