Daily Inspiration: Meet Memphis Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Memphis Taylor.

Hi Memphis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Sarasota Florida. I grew up playing baseball. I decided to pursue a career in music that eventually got me to move to LA. I got to LA and immediately ran out of money and was living in my truck on Whitley and Franklin. After a couple months I finally landed a job as a music producer and audio engineer. After getting a taste of the music industry I shortly after quit music all together and went back to bartending in Hollywood. After a year or so of feeling lost without a purpose I was discovered by my talent agent on Instagram who insisted that I had a look for film and television. I signed with him. Signed with an agent. They started sending me out on major auditions with the biggest casting directors in Hollywood so I decided to focus on acting. I also started writing screen plays and have been doing both ever since. Now we are here. Grinding out the artist life in Hollyweird.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO! I went broke. Was homeless sleeping in my truck. I was unemployed and couldn’t find work for months. Constantly dealing with rejection. Got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle and night life. Had to reinvent myself multiple times. Somehow I always found a way to stay afloat though. Its the typical cliche artists story. Not sure if other people make it up to seem like they’ve been through hell and back but I actually lived it and still have the stolen parking permit so my truck wouldn’t get towed to prove it. It was awesome though. It was an extremely exciting time in my life. It worked itself out perfectly. Shit like that will make you believe in something real quick. Life really is rad when you pursue something you’re passionate about. Having purpose makes life easy. Even if you stink because you couldn’t pay for your gym membership to shower. It was awesome. I wear it as a badge of honor now. No nepotism, no trust fund, no rich mommy and daddy. Just a heavy dose of ambition with a splash of stubborn and a dash of stupidity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I act and write. Ive been in couple of major network shows and have done a couple films and short films blah..blah..blah. I currently have 2 scripts being pitched to a couple different streaming services and film studios. Im most proud of the scripts I write. Acting is a tough one because I dont like watching myself. Its extremely uncomfortable. Im proud of all of it though. What sets me apart is I feel like I know how to connect with any audience. I feel like it comes naturally. Probably why I was able to kinda fit into different types of friend groups growing up.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I never really fully fit into any group of friends I had. I wasnt an outcast or anything. I was always cool with everyone. I was just the black sheep of every group. I was really shy growing up. I grew up playing baseball and was really good. I thought that was going to be what I did for the rest of my life but by my senior year my rotator cuff was destroyed and I still cant throw a baseball for more than 5 minutes without pain. I was also an awful student though. Like 1.2 GPA awful. I skipped 70% of my senior year. I hated school. HATED it. I got my GED. Then started chasing the dream of a Rockstar. That was the dream I chased all the way up until LA.
