Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice McClain.
Maurice, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I packed my car in 2017 and moved to LA from Iowa with my clothes and a dream. I’m now working in the industry that I’ve always dreamed of as a child full-time. I am acting, modeling, styling, and an over-all entrepreneur.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. My biggest lesson was learning that I couldn’t take everyone with me. I’ve also learned so much about myself in the process and the most valuable lesson is to take care of my mental health at all cost. This industry comes with its own challenges, let alone what the world throws at you. Secure your peace before the bag.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I proudly wear a few hats. I own a cleaning company, clothing company, and act. What I am most proud of is being a model and stylist. That is my first love. I believe what sets me apart is my genuine down to earth personality. It’s what’s needed in a seemingly superficial industry.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
TAKE THE RISK! I take all the risk. By the end of your life, you will wish you had rather than not. I don’t want to get to the end of the road with any regrets. As Maya Angelou famously said, “If you’re always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” So TAKE THE RISK! and thank yourself later.
