Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Osterberg.
Hi Matthew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from a small town in northern Michigan and moved to LA a little over three years ago to pursue a career in film. After about two years, I realized I had a passion for design. Fashion was always something I was interested in so I started designing garments in a sketchbook. A.P.C. and Acne Studios were brands I took inspiration from. Eventually, I took my designs to a pattern maker DTLA and had them handmade from scratch using the finest quality fabric I could find. I founded “Modmoda Studios” in 2020.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle would be the funding of my project. Also, It was my first time starting a company and I had no experience in the fashion industry. It’s a lot of trial and error. Learning from your mistakes early on and experimenting with new ideas to see what works.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I’m the creative director at Modmoda Studios and design all the garments. I’m most proud of my ability to turn an idea, into a sketch, into a product, and finally into the hands of people who appreciate my work.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to have patience and trust the process. Things take time to grow.
