Daily Inspiration: Meet Maryon King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryon King.

Maryon King

Hi Maryon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Was born in Moldova and raised in Padova, Italy. I did all my schooling in Italy. I always wanted to do music, but my parents are very traditional and didn’t want to me to struggle since the industry is hard to succeed in. So, I would sing in secret. I’d lock myself in my room, watch Lana Del Rey, and sing. I borrowed money from a family friend to pay for singing lessons. I did this for a year in secret. That’s how I worked on my voice and vocals – it was really tough fighting to do music. They were supportive of everything else but that.

Then, I moved to London, a city of performance opportunities where I could work on myself as an artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always loved music and knew I wanted to pursue a career in the industry since I was 11 years old, but I also faced many struggles, like switching from a Spanish/English degree to a music degree while I was studying in London and trying to convince my parents that it was a great idea. It took them a long time to accept the path that I wanted to take. Also, I struggled with adapting to new environments all my life. From Moldova to London and from London to LA. So many countries with so many music styles. I felt like I had to restart from zero every time I moved somewhere.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist/singer/songwriter originally from Moldova/Italy, raised in London and now live in LA. I am known for my song Boys Will Be Boys, for having toured with Sigala in the UK, and for writing with a lot of renowned producers and songwriters.

I am the most proud when I come up with a great melody and a great lyric line in a music session.

I’d say my vocal tone and melodie writing is what sets me apart from others.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I speak 6 languages (Italian, Moldovan, Spanish, Latin, German, and English). I was born in Moldova, though!

I have an obsession for perfumes and good tiramisus!! After all, I was raised for the majority of my life in Italy.
