Daily Inspiration: Meet Maira Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maira Gonzalez

Hi Maira, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Maira, I was born and raised in Los Angeles June of 1992, West Adams to be precise. My parents were born here and began raising me as teenagers at the young age of 16. My mother went from working at the espresso counter at Nordstrom to the Clarins skin care counter. From there she moved to the Mac Counter and she worked with the company for many years. During this time I was developing my love for art. I was never interested in doing makeup like my mother but i loved art. I loved painting and drawing things and always excelled in my art classes. By the time I finished high school and went off to college my mom had already quit MAC and was only doing freelance work with celebrity clients. My first job ever right after high school was the MAC counter. It was there where I learned how to interact with clients and gained my love for Makeup Artistry. I worked there all through college and at the same time I earned my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Right after I finished college in 2015 I worked mostly as a freelance hair and makeup artist for three years , then I decided it was time to work in the field I went to school for. I applied for the Los Angeles police department and probation department at the same time. The probation was the first to call me so I took the job. After completing the academy in 2018 I started working at a Juvenile detention center. It was a very tough but wonderful experience and it helped me build a lot of character. 2020 the pandemic began and I was extremely blessed to receive an opportunity to work in a makeup artist position full time, so I left my job and left to work in production once again. It’s been a wonderful experience and continue to work doing what I love to this day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. I slowly found out a lot about myself and began to connect many dots. I was late diagnosed with ADHD and autism. At first it was hard but now I’ve accepted that my brain is just wired a bit differently and I wouldn’t change a thing. Life makes sense now and I’m excited for what’s to come

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For work I do hair and makeup at studio where we do content for fitness videos.
I would say I specialize in makeup but as of recently I’ve gotten into hair a lot more.
I most proud of myself for making it this far with the help of my family. I’m not married nor do I have any children but my friends and family are all I could ask for.
I don’t know if there’s anything in particular that’s sets me apart from others but I can do anything , I learn quickly as I’m a visual learner and have lots of creativity, so I commonly here others say I can do anything.
