Daily Inspiration: Meet Lucky Mor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucky Mor

Hi Lucky, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts simply. I moved to LA from Detroit in 1999 for music school. I wanted to be Prince. Then I realized there was already a Prince and he was really good at being Prince! So I went on to figure out how to be me. LOL My love for music translated to writing films, plays, and a successful award-winning digital series, “F#@K I Love U”. In 2018, going through a deep depression, the only thing that kept me around was walking my dog and grabbing a coffee in the morning. I was also attempting to seek mental health services for my needs; however, problems from not accepting my insurance, 6-month waiting lists, or expensive co pays prevented me. One morning, frustrated, standing at an intersection with my dog and a coffee, I said, “Getting mental health should be as easy as getting a cup of coffee, and as cheap!” I began to brainstorm a way to achieve this need, Empaffee. The words empathy and coffee together. Empaffee is a safe café where emotional and mental wellness is our focus. Instead of asking, “ May we take your order?”, we’ll ask, “How do you feel?” Then we will cater options that enhance or alter the state you’re in. We will also offer empathetic listening sessions. Soon you’ll be able to speak with a trained empathetic listener to sit with you without judgement, opinions, or answers. Just offering an upstanding ear that’ll validate your feelings, concerns or accomplishments. We currently operate in DTLA as a mobile tent experience working to the 2026 brick-and-mortar.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching and operating Empaffee’s mobile tent experience has taught us some valuable lessons. Our first day outside was January 6th, 2025. Imagine that! lol By that Wednesday, the air quality was so poor due to the fires that we had to close until the air improved. Once that happened, a series of rains and high winds made it a struggle to be with the community we serve. Experiencing the flu and other setbacks along the way have only reinforced our commitment to always figuring out a way to grow our Empaffee community and be ready to serve.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder and CEO of Empaffee. I feel Empaffee chose to use me as a vessel to become a reality, it’s bigger than an idiviual. My primary responsibility with is to lead, build its foundation, infrastructure, and mission. Also to find other mission-driven individuals with extraordinary talent to propel Empaffee beyond any limitations. Empaffee, in its 1st 3 months operating in DTLA, has built a trusted returning community base. Known to us as Honors, because it’s an honor to serve them. Empaffee is an experience, like seeing your favorite music artist live. Something you wanted to see and needed to feel. After many turbulent years I figured out how to be Lucky Mor, and no one else can be me.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Figure out a way. Never allow an obstacle, barrier, dilemma, or counteraction stop you from doing what you want to accomplish. The key is to keep moving forward, staying consistent, honoring your commitment with commitment. Also, have four grounding principles. Mine: 1. Always be honest with yourself and your community. 2. Own your mistakes. 3. Do not cause harm to a person, community, or environment. 4. Set the level of caring.
