Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Nielson.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you! I am a lover of all things immersive, and in my mind – watching a film, in a darkened theater, with buttery popcorn at my side, is exactly that, totally immersive. Going to movies with my family was a highlight of growing up – I loved watching stories that would take me allover the world and all through time, and knew that filmmaking would be in my future.
While studying Public Relations in college, I cold-called a talent agency and auditioned; I didn’t have any behind-the-camera skills to speak of, so I figured I’d try acting. It worked. When I wasn’t in front of the camera I was endlessly asking everyone what their job/skill was and how to do it.
I eventually worked my way into helping develop scripts and casting – I took an abrupt break from the film world for a while to create and raise a family with my best friend and husband. I have spent the last three years recovering from Lyme disease and flexing my filmmaking skills again. I got in touch with a really great production team and knew I had to run with it and here we are!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You can ask anyone – but the film industry is not for the faint of heart, you have to become well acquainted with rejection. You have to be able to take the right kind of critiques and implement them. You have to be willing to hear ‘no’ far more than ‘yes’… and when you hear ‘yes’, show gratitude and SHOW up for the job you’ve wanted, with humility and grace.
As a younger female in the industry when I first started out, I had my own challenges and experiences that were disheartening on more than one occasion, and I had to really find the right people to work. This time around, I feet so comfortable and safe and far more creative.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are working on FANTASTIC projects right now that I get giddy about every time I get to chat about them. We have an epic ancient jungle film with a storyline that checks all the boxes with action, adventure, and heart. I am thrilled to be helping bring that one to the screen.
I also have the great joy of working on a transmedia universe media project with The Supernatural University, which is like a real-life Hogwarts with classes on various subjects focused on all-things supernatural and so much more. We have film, TV, and game tie-ins that will interest just about everyone. The film scripts are all connected with easter eggs and teasers for the next show hidden throughout – it’s a lot of fun and a lot of work to make this one happen. I can’t wait to see it all come to life – it’s huge.
We are working on a hopeful, yet heart-wrenching documentary as well. It’s about refugees and how they are torn from their homes and have to make the ultimate decision to find a new life in a new and unfamiliar country. It’s been hard, but rewarding.
My passion project has my heart, I can’t wait to bring really beautiful regency stories to life in an episodic mini-series. We are all-female-lead and developed at this point, and have wonderful authors working on these romantic, mommy-daughter date-approved shows. They are swoon-worthy and so much fun.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If you are interested in the supernatural, UFOs, conspiracy, etc, you will love The Supernatural University, we are creating content constantly on our website launching soon and are loving that our beta-testers, who are from all walks of life, are finding something of interest in the classes and bonus materials!
With our first fully-funded film in pre-production, it’s so exciting to finally be able to put out into the world all the things we’ve been busy with behind the scenes.
