Today we’d like to introduce you to Lina Persson.
Hi Lina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
During the pandemic, like many people, I picked up a few hobbies that I never would have expected to turn into a business of my own. I taught myself how to crochet and make little earrings from a kit I bought at a local craft store, and it wasn’t until I began to gain traction on my social media that I learned how much fun I was having with it. I then started up my online shop, naming each piece after influential women in my life or significant milestones in my endeavors as a creator. Since then, I have had the honor of being invited to sell my handmade goods at local markets, sororities, and online with great success, and I cannot wait to keep going. The goal with Sun Kid, the Label is to create a sustainable, durable, handmade alternative to fast fashion brands at an affordable price, and that is exactly what I am doing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, and I don’t think it is realistic to expect a smooth journey in any small business endeavor. I began my business during the pandemic while I was also pursuing my college education. I hoped for my brand to fund my education, and I have held many jobs in order to sustain my business and myself… there have been several months of slim to no income, and that was definitely a road bump I had to conquer and navigate as a broke college student doing the best she could. All in all, this is absolutely a learning experience, and I am very thankful I kept going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create jewelry, crochet goods, candles, and prints for anyone that desires beautiful, durable, unique pieces that fit all aesthetics. I learned in my creative process that I am interested in many different art forms, so this little brand of mine is really a manifestation of myself.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My Sun Kid, the Label playlist ranges anywhere from Stan Getz to Led Zeppelin to Chris Stapleton… I truly love all music and find myself inspired by every genre that comes on the second I put my headphones in. I also subscribe to The Daily Good, and every morning at 6 a.m. I received an email about all of the beautiful things life may have in store for me that day. Those kinds of things are brief little resets that my mind needs to gather inspiration. Books-wise, I read literally anything and everything that falls into my lap. I am on a historical fiction binge right now, I’m loving Kristin Hannah’s “The Nightingale.” That book inspired my last collection, actually!
