Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonard Buschel.
Hi Leonard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a News Junkie. Growing up in Philadelphia, we were blessed with the award-winning Inquirer delivered every morning. At noon, I would visit the local newsstand and buy the Daily News. Great for opinions and sports scores. (I was also a compulsive gambler in my teens). Every afternoon, the Evening Bulletin would be on every corner in the dark blue news box.
Ten years ago, I founded the weekly Addiction/Recovery eBulletin. Being the publisher and editor of this eMagazine is a dream come true. We have 22,000 subscribers and ten loyal advertisers, the eBulletin has a diverse audience: industry professionals, health and wellness clinicians, treatment centers, doctors, corporate CEOs, MFTs, admission coordinators, members of the press and members of the recovery community. Editions of the eBulletin can be found on its website: http://addictionrecoveryebulletin.org
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A little bumpy and winding. Luckily, my spirit animal is a Land Rover. So my forward motion has never been blocked for very long.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I find articles from all over the world, in news sources of the highest quality, that we rerun for our educated and eclectic subscribers. Every story is informative, entertaining, interesting and often important. We, my assistant editor, Ahbra Schiff, and I know what grabs the attention of our 22,000 subscribers. Dealing with ADDICTION, the primary health issue of our time is a very delicate yet, powerful story to cover. So many of our readers claim the Addiction/Recovery eBulletin is the only source of news they read every week. We are very proud of our efforts. In over 10 years, we have never missed an issue. No matter what!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was taking the Pennsylvania Railroad with my mother and brother to New York City every Christmas. My aunt worked at Gimbels. We stayed at the America Hotel on Times Square when it still had character… It was great being out of school (what a waste except the English classes and learning how to read). The energy that we all exhibited on New Year’s Eve, watching the Ball come down at midnight, only thinking about the hot chocolate with marshmallows we would order from room service made the love of humanity, sadly, a passing fancy.
