Daily Inspiration: Meet Lena Jung

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lena Jung.

Hi Lena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got deeply interested in semi-permanent makeup because a family member had tattooed eyebrows a long time ago. When microblading was booming in LA, it turned out so naturally well, and that sparked my interest in the technique. At that time, as a stay-at-home mom who hadn’t yet built a career, I had the chance to learn and study the skill. I asked some of the school moms I was close to if they could model for me, and I started at home before eventually renting a space in lovely area in OC

Tattooing on someone else’s face is by no means an easy task, but by practicing on rubber pads every day and doing demos for family and friends, I gradually built up my confidence. While my interest in makeup made it easier to approach permanent makeup, tattooing on someone else’s face still feels like a cautious endeavor. In the beginning, I was the toughest critic of my own work—if I wasn’t completely satisfied, even if the client liked it, I couldn’t help but dwell on the imperfections.

What I love most about this job is that I get to help my clients have a natural look and enjoy a more convenient morning routine with semi-permanent makeup. After working in this field for 7 years, I often see clients who have had services elsewhere and need corrections, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see them satisfied after the procedure.

A few years ago, I also added fineline tattoo services, which has helped broaden my clientele. I truly enjoy this work—it’s fun, it suits me well, and I love it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Even after learning the technique, becoming truly skilled comes from gaining extensive experience and know-how. Building relationships with more clients and continually practicing are essential for improvement. I’ve found that consistently learning new methods, upgrading my skills, and using high-quality pigments and machines are crucial to staying competitive in this field. Although I’m extremely grateful for every client who trusts me with their look, the market in LA and Orange County is highly saturated with PMU artists, making financial stability an important factor. Experiencing challenges like the economic downturn during COVID-19 has taught me resilience, and now I feel empowered thanks to the ongoing support of my clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist specializing in semi-permanent makeup and fineline tattoos. For eyebrows, I offer microblading, microshading, ombre powder brows, and the latest technique—nanoblading. I also specialize in lip blush tattoos and eyeliner tattoos. When it comes to fineline tattoos, my focus is on creating dainty, customized designs and lettering tattoos. Ultimately, I always strive to ensure that every client who visits our studio feels comfortable and leaves completely satisfied.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I believe the industry will continue to thrive. Semi-permanent makeup isn’t truly permanent—over time, the pigment fades and touch-ups become necessary. In my experience, beauty only improves with regular treatments, regardless of age. I’ve worked with clients of all ages, including a woman in her 90’s, which really highlights its universal appeal.

As I continue to study, learn, and embrace new techniques, I’m confident that more people will come to recognize and trust my work. While new trends will always emerge, they all adhere to the same core principles. Ultimately, my goal remains to enhance natural beauty by maintaining a natural, subtle look that makes my clients feel confident every day.
