Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Ellis.
Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Absolutely! I have to say organizing just lives in my dna. From a young age my mom and I bonded over our innate sense for order and the beauty of an organized space. We’d spend Saturdays and Sundays tackling everything from kitchen drawers to the chaos of the linen closet, genuinely enjoying the process. When I got older and moved to New York City, where space is at a premium, my talent for creating order in tight spaces quickly caught the attention of friends and family. They were always impressed by how I could make the smallest apartments feel spacious and often sought my help to transform their own places.
When I relocated to Los Angeles, I realized that organizing could be more than just a pastime; it could be a viable career. The idea of turning my passion into a professional endeavor was thrilling, yet the comfort of a regular income initially held me back. My curiosity couldn’t be contained, though, and I soon began to research the field of professional organizing, learning about the industry and how others had successfully navigated it.
Everything changed when I unexpectedly lost my job of 11 years, leaving the office with nothing but a box of keepsakes. I remember sharing the news with my then-boyfriend, now husband, who surprisingly said, “Congratulations!” Somehow, his words felt exactly right. He encouraged me by saying, “Now you can finally start your business.” It seemed as though fate was pushing me forward, urging me to move from daydreaming to doing. And that’s precisely what I did—embracing the call to action and stepping into what would become not just a new job but a new way of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Creating my own business has certainly been an incredible journey, though, no, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing—nor did I expect it to be. Owning a business is inherently about embracing the ups and downs and learning valuable lessons along the way. As a business owner, you find yourself wearing many hats, which can be both exhilarating and exhausting.
One significant challenge I faced was finding the right people for specific tasks, such as connecting with a skilled website designer or other crucial vendors. Initially, building these connections was tough. However, as my business grew and I became more established, I started to develop a robust network of reliable professionals, which made finding the right people much easier. This network has been instrumental in smoothing the path forward and supporting the growth of my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My favorite part! We are professional home organizers dedicated to helping our clients declutter and make room for the good stuff, what truly matters in life. Time and again, we’ve witnessed the transformative power of an organized space. Clients have shared how our services have made them better parents and partners and even how their children are happier and improving in school. Being part of such transformations is a magical experience.
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as arriving at a client’s home, seeing the initial state of their space, and then witnessing the dramatic change by the time we leave. It’s truly rewarding. In addition to general organizing, we specialize in move management and assisting clients with home remodels and new builds. And guiding our clients through life’s transitions and into their new spaces is an honor – and super fun!
What sets us apart is our knack for crafting creative, customized solutions that fit seamlessly into our clients’ lifestyles. We carefully select systems and storage solutions that not only maintain order but also enhance the beauty of their homes. Each project is tailored specifically to the client, ensuring a personalized and effective organizing experience.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One interesting fact about me that may surprise people is that I was once a dancer. My years of dance training have deeply influenced my work ethic and my efficiency. Additionally, understanding how people move through spaces has endowed me with a unique perspective on creating flow within a room. Just as a dance stage is kept clear to allow for graceful movement, I view our living spaces in a similar light. There should be nothing unnecessary to navigate around, ensuring smooth and fluid movement throughout the home. This background gives me a distinctive approach to organizing and designing spaces that not only look good but also function seamlessly.
