Daily Inspiration: Meet Kim Serrano

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kim Serrano.

Kim Serrano

Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My newest company, Fantastic Achievements In Teaching Historic (F.A.I..T.H.) tutoring, is set to open later next month in July. F.A.I.T.H. Tutoring is a hybrid (online and in-person) program that specializes in creating an individualized and implementing a tailor-made curriculum to meet the needs of all preschoolers – second-grade students, especially children with special needs.

I am currently a credentialed pre-kindergarten SPED teacher at Inglewood Unified. I have been working in the field of education for over nineteen years, teaching in private and public school settings. I have experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, adolescents, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults with and without disabilities.

My educational background consists on obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Masters Degree in Education, a Site Supervisor Permit with the California Commission on Teacher Credentials and my Early Childhood Special Education Teaching Credentials from California State Dominguez Hills University.

My company mission of F.A.I.T.H. Tutoring is for every educator to meet the needs for every child while providing world-class customer service without charging the world-class prices. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of affordable tutoring programs that meet the needs of children (especially children with special needs) and my tutoring company does will fill in that gap.

My future goal is to extend my tutoring services so everyone from Preschoolers to Adults can benefit from the services that F.A.I.T.H.Tutoring can provide and more without breaking the bank.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am so blessed and grateful to have my family and my friends (who are like my family) who continue to support my all of businesses since day one while continuing to be my loyal customers. I already have a waitlist for my tutoring company, which is set to open in July 2024.

Unfortunately, I had to close down one of my businesses (In Control Cosmetics) back on December 31, 2023, due to the rising costs of insurance in the state of California. From a business perspective, it became too expensive to keep my cosmetics line open and running. So I put all of my energy into my other businesses, which are Queen Kimmy In Control Of Couture, which is an online consignment shop, and Fantastic Achievements In Teaching Historic Tutoring, which is a hybrid tutoring company.

I love the fact that I am now starting my own tutoring company. F.A.I.T.H. Tutoring has been in the works since 2017. Back then, there was not strong need for private individualize and group tutoring. I am extremely passionate about my line of work as an Educator and will continue educate while sharing knowledge to my future clients and their families.

My challenges and obstacles were trying to balancing it all while trying to keep calm and staying true to myself while during the chaos. My time management in this business is a must. I currently work full-time as a Pre-K Special Education Teacher.

I am happily married with our awesome eight year old son Warren, Who is starting third grade in the fall. My husband Robert is my biggest supporter. We make sure that our son does remain on task while completing his homework assignments and taking him to his extra curriculum activities while continuing to enjoy our quality time together.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a business owner, I am currently a Pre-Kindergarten Special Education Teacher. I have worked in the field of education for over nineteen years, and I am extremely proud of my accomplishments and contributions as an educator.

I continue to love what to do, and it shows daily. There is still a huge need for Special Education Teachers, especially with educators of color. I absolutely love working with children from all walks of life.

My goal is for all of my students and their parents to take what they have learned from me and continue to apply it in their day-to-day lives. We are all in this fight together.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a dreamer when I was growing up. Instead of living in my reality, I often dream and fantasize about my future, the things I want to accomplish, my aspirations and just wanting a better life for myself.

I was never the person to just settle, I will always aspire to want more, while staying kind, gracious and humble.
