Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelley Carrasquillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Carrasquillo.

Hi Kelley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I first started creating content in 2020. I had a video I posted on TikTok about being a Step Mom with my Step Daughter that went viral. Following that I had posted a video that was about my then husband and I’s age gap which also blew up. I remember talking to him and saying what if we focused in on what we post and see what happens. That really was the start of it all. After that, I became more intentional with what I was posting and started to share my journey as a young Step Mom and someone in an age gap relationship. I stayed consistent with trying to post 1 video a day for the first few years and have now grown my following to 3 million followers on TikTok. I am still sharing my life but it has transitioned recently. In July, I announced that I am getting divorced from my husband and am sharing what that looks like, as well as raising two little girls we had together. I am also still sharing content as a Step Mom because one of my Step Daughters, Ana (20), is still living with me in California. Throughout the 5 years of making content, I have lived in Washington, Texas, and California. My ex-husband was in the military and he had retired in Texas and we chose to move to Los Angeles to help Ana pursue her acting career. After we chose to get divorced, he moved back to Austin and I stayed in Los Angeles.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, especially as of recently with the divorce going public. We made a lot of couples content that was based in humor on my accounts. With that, there has been a lot of speculation about whether the divorce was real or fake. Reading that people think the divorce is fake, which is one of the hardest things I’ve gone through especially publicly has been hard. I think social media is a wonderful place with tons of opportunities but I’ve struggled with learning that not everyone will like you or what you post and sometimes people just say mean things and learning to let that roll off your back is tough.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a digital content creator who posts videos about my life on social media, mainly TikTok and Instagram. It has recently transitioned this year from more couples content to navigating a divorce, finding myself, sharing my struggles and my life with my audience. I hope to be someone that shares the good with the bad so that others going through the same thing as me don’t feel so alone in their life and that their emotions are valid. I am proud of my vulnerability and still showing up when things get hard. I have had the opportunity to share my experiences on several red carpets this year, most recently I went to London for the premiere of The Family Plan 2 and had the privilege to interview Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan. It was such a surreal moment. It taught me to say yes to more things and that just because one door closes doesn’t mean another one isn’t going to open for you. I also was able to interview Toto Wolff at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November which was another surreal moment. I think one thing that sets me apart is that no matter what I am going through I try my best to look for the positives and trust that everything will work out.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey has been to not give up. Sometimes things feel difficult or hard but that your perseverance will be rewarded. Getting to do something that I thoroughly enjoy has been the biggest blessing.
