

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Austin.
Hi Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a fitness personality, recipe developer, creator of the Katie Austin app, host and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model. As a former Division I lacrosse player at USC, sports and athletics have always been a part of my life. After I moved on from playing, I felt lost with how to work out – no coach, no training for anything, no guidance, scheduling, etc. I started to create at-home workout videos and post them online. It wasn’t my first time creating workout videos, though. My first workout video was actually when I was seven years old, as I filmed with my mom, Denise Austin. My mom has been in the fitness industry for 40+ years, doing aerobics with Jack Lalane back in the day, to ESPN, to lifetime TV, a dozen books, and record selling VHS and DVDs.
Now, I do fitness just like her, but in a different era of social media. I’ve grown her workout brand to over 1.8 million social media followers, an app, online programs, a viral Snapchat channel, and more. I’ve been featured on shows such as the TODAY Show, Rachael Ray, Tamron Hall Show, KTLA, The Doctors, On Air with Ryan Seacrest. I was honored on Create + Cultivates Top 100 Women in Digital List and was named by Seventeen Magazine as one of the top 10 Instagrams to follow. But most importantly, I love what I do. I’m passionate about helping other girls and women achieve their best self. I put out daily workouts and recipes that are realistic, attainable, and FUN! I’m also super excited to be back in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit this year!! As Rookie of the Year last year, it’s such an honor to be aligned with a brand like SI SWIM, as we believe in the same mission of empowering women.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My passion definitely shows through my work. I have an app of over 250+ on-demand workout videos, a weekly schedule to follow anywhere, 120+ simple healthy recipes, and advice to help you thrive. It’s made to fit YOUR daily schedule. I absolutely love teaching workouts and getting creative with my meals.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I feel like I’ve taken so many risks in my career, but I wouldn’t really call them “risks”- yet learning pivots. I actually used to be a full-time sports host while trying to pursue fitness on the side. I took a risk to give up a more conventional job like hosting and pursue social media and my own app full-time. So happy I did!
