Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaiza.
Hi Kaiza, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. My parents had put me in vocal lessons from a young age, and I’ve been performing at concert halls since I was around six or so. I’ve been writing my own lyrics and melodies since I was young too, and I’d sing and play them on the piano for smaller private audiences, the result of which encouraged me to get into the studio and record them. I spent a good bit of time recording and curating the songs I wanted to put onto my debut EP, ‘The Writer’, and finally released it in June of this year. I never imagined it would receive such great feedback from the people who are streaming it.
I’ve really enjoyed getting to hear their responses, all of which have been really positive. I’m able to see where they’re from too and it’s so thrilling to see that the people listening to my music are spread throughout all different parts of the world. The top five countries where most of my listeners reside are the US, Germany, the UK, Hong Kong, and Brazil.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The world of pop music is very competitive with all the different emerging artists trying to make a name for themselves. I’ve met with artists who feel like in order to rise up to the level they desire to be on, they need to sabotage or make less of the other artists’ work. I really try to avoid anyone sporting this mentality and thankfully I’ve been pretty successful in doing so. Truly I feel there is more than enough success to go around and until I met my people here I was just fine keeping my head down and focusing on my own career and journey.
There are people in LA who genuinely have good intentions though and finding those people has made navigating the music industry a lot easier. I also feel very lucky to have had something of a platform on social media where people were already interested in and made aware of my music when I decided to share ‘The Writer’s” release. It’s made the road a lot easier for me knowing I have the support of my fans who started as followers and it’s been so special to go along on my journey with them rooting for me and having my back.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work —— What can you tell us about your songwriting process and future music plans?
When I was in the process of writing my EP, I was living all around different parts of the East coast. The songs were then recorded in Atlanta and shortly after the release, I moved out here to Los Angeles which is where I plan to be for a little while. I’m hoping to start working on a second project soon, and I also would like to start performing again with the songs I’ve released on ‘The Writer’.
Performing is easily my favorite part of being a singer, with everything else following right behind it. I know performing my own songs will be the most amazing experience imaginable, so I’ve been putting in the work to make this a possibility in the near future.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love LA, I really do. I think every city I’ve lived in has had certain qualities to make me appreciate them, but there’s a timeless charm here that even with all the new coming in, stays the same. Being more accustomed to cities like Atlanta and New York, I’m still like a little child whenever someone suggests we go straight from the city to the mountains and then over to the beach.
There’s a lot of nature around here that I find so beautiful. I can’t deny my love for a good New York hustle moment, but the feeling of peacefulness that settles into my soul after I’ve hiked to the top of a mountain or spent the day by the ocean is just unbeatable to me.
