Daily Inspiration: Meet Jupiter’s Heat

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jupiter’s Heat.

Hi Jupiter’s Heat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
[Hallie] Thank you for having us! I’m Hallie, one half of Jupiter’s Heat! My girlfriend, Johana is the other half. About three years ago, when Johana and I first met, we instantly bonded over our love for music. We played a few songs on guitar for each other that first night…

[Jo] I remember feeling so nervous when I was hugging her goodbye, I ended up whispering that she had a beautiful voice, to her friend standing next to her…instead of her.

[Hallie] Fast forward a few months later…and…we’re together!

[Hallie] A few months into our relationship, we decided we wanted to do more with our passion for music. After gaining some comfort performing in the local music scene, we started writing original music together. In the almost two years since forming Jupiter’s Heat, Jo has been honing in on her writing skills, and I have been learning more about music production. We’ve gone from playing open mics and local shows to even hosting our own Music and Art events for the Long Beach community. Every day we’re continuing to progress and develop a more full, intricate and entertaining sound. We both feel so happy for the opportunity to get to spread our message of love, acceptance and positivity through our music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
[Hallie] It hasn’t always been a smooth road for us, no. Although most of my family welcomes and accepts us with open arms, Jo comes from a more conservative and religious background. When we first got together, we faced a lot of opposition from people closest to her.

[Jo] Yeah, I’ve definitely suffered some major losses of both family and friends. This entire experience has also been a very abrupt and rude awakening to some of the Hispanic community’s negative attitude towards LGBTQ relationships. As a proud Bisexual Latina who was raised on the foundation of family her whole life, working through their nonacceptance has been pretty tough. [Hallie] And although it’s been hard to go through this unfair rejection and exclusion together, the sense of loneliness and isolation that we’ve felt has inspired us to write music from a place of pain and authenticity. Our song “With or Without You” tells the story of some of this pain and how embracing the freedom that comes with letting go of it makes us stronger.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
We are a Long Beach based, acoustic soul / R&B duo who fell in love with each other and our love for music. We create, produce and perform our own original content. One thing we are most proud of is hosting an event series called “Art & Soul” at a local art gallery for the Long Beach community. The event showcased multiple performances from local musicians and visual artists who performed live painting. The size in attendance exceeded our expectations and really proved that we can truly do anything we set our minds to. What sets us apart from others is our love for each other and our passion for spreading positivity through music. We hope to create music that inspires others to deepen their connections with their inner selves and to always be the best and most honest versions of themselves.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
[Hallie] Is it cliche to say performing? It makes me so happy to share our art with people. It’s been pretty hard during these COVID times to not be able to play shows or to connect with friends and fans in that way. We’ve been doing some live stream videos, but nothing compares to the feeling of pouring our hearts out on stage and seeing people connect with our music.

[Jo] Creating! Since meeting Hallie and forming Jupiter’s Heat, I’ve gotten much more in tune with my creative-self. Expanding my creativity, becoming a better songwriter and overall musician, and watching our art grow and connect more deeply with listeners, brings me so much joy.
