Today we’d like to introduce you to Joslyn Sandifer.
Hi Joslyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started like a lot of young attorneys by working for a mid-sized firm doing civil work. However, I always knew that I wanted to help people in an “up-close” and personal way. Shortly after I began my legal career I transitioned to the local prosecutor’s office which officially set me on my path.
After several years working for the State’s Attorney’s Office I was offered employment with a criminal defense firm. At that firm, I blossomed. I found my voice and solidified my calling. It was from that experience that I gained the confidence to hang a shingle and open my own firm.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth… no. Fulfilling yes.
Thankfully we have always been a pretty popular firm. We started off with lots of business. However, I went to school to be a lawyer and not necessarily a business owner. There are just so many aspects of running a business that I had never confronted before. There are always questions of when to expand, take a new case and/or lease a building or buy. These constant questions while attempting to represent individuals create daily challenges and bumps that make the road less smooth than desired.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in criminal law and personal injury work. In our area, we are known for very zealous advocacy. When people think about Sandifer & Associates Attorneys at Law, LLC they think about Black Girl Magic with the legal know how that creates dispositions that do not often happen.
I am most proud of the fact that our firm is one in which our clients are seen and heard.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
COVID-19 taught me to be flexible. Before COVID I definitely thought that things typically needed to go a certain way all the time. COVID-19 taught me that things can change at any moment and that the best people and businesses learn to quickly adapt.
