Daily Inspiration: Meet Joshua Rosales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Rosales.

Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve lived in Los Angeles all my life and I just love spending time exploring the outdoors. I grew an appreciation for the hiking our many hiking trails we’ve been blessed with. I often encountered wildlife I found interesting so I decided to invest in a digital camera and take it along with me on my hikes. Eventually, I discovered that nature could be the perfect backdrop for environmental portraiture! It’s been five years. With the help of the creative community – I can definitely see myself continuing my photography journey. I’ve met so many kind and talented individuals along the way. It’s a privilege to help them tell their story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the hardest part was figuring out where to start when it came to shooting portraits. With subjects like flowers and bugs, you just point and shoot. it’s not the same case when it comes to people. I had no experience directing my subjects so that is a skill I learned to pick up with time, trial and error.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I shoot digital and film photography. My subjects usually include wildlife found throughout our many hiking trails. My love for photography and wildlife has driven me to explore our beaches and parks to capture them in their most natural state. With access to many wonderful locations in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, I was able to turn these scenic locations I had explored into backdrops for portrait photography. I think what sets my images apart is my editing style. It’s moody yet vibrates if that makes sense.
