Daily Inspiration: Meet John Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Green.

Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Over the years I’ve gone under the name Polopirate or Polopirata. I am a collector of clothing, mostly vintage and streetwear. Today I do product placement for numerous companies and I run a podcast as well as two online stores and I’m a part of the artist team known as Danny Cortes. I got my start from rocking polo for years and collecting. I also was in the new york nightlife scene doing a weekly party with the hip hop producer Just Blaze. I’ve been in numerous articles and videos detailing clothes, specifically Ralph Lauren.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life is smooth. I’ve experienced highs as well lows. My struggles included nearly being homeless. Sleeping on trains and literally running on fumes bouncing from odd job to odd job. Luckily I was fortunate to have peeps like Prance lo and others who held me down till I finally got it together. Now I’m in a much better place but I feel that we all need to go through it to really motivate you to get where you need to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from working with Danny Cortes, I do a Podcast called the Super P podcast. It’s on almost every podcast provider and the podcast youtube had over 793,000 views last year. We were over a million in year one so we try to continue to drop daily content to grow the numbers. I’m known for collecting clothes from numerous brands ranging from polo to north face to supreme. The podcast deals with artists and creatives and we talk about their journeys. My new season starts in FEB. What sets me apart is I’ve been collecting and creating partnerships for over 20+ years. So I can see trends coming, trends going. What I’m most proud of is being on an awesome team that includes Danny Cortes, Shutter Ed, Pito, Neyita, and Freakyfrige. When you’re around so many talented people it makes you up your game. I also run two online stores, one on eBay and one on Etsy.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think you need to always take risks. As they say no risk no reward. Playing it safe doesn’t get you anywhere these days. I’ve taken risks at numerous jobs to get me to the next level. Nothing bad. But if you don’t put yourself out there you will be left in the back of the class. Closed mouths don’t get fed.
