Daily Inspiration: Meet Jinju Bae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jinju Bae.

Hi Jinju, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

When I was young age, I always grew up around by scissors, perm rods, colors and doll heads, as my mum was hairstylist since she had me.

After high School I knew what I wanted to be so I started work with Toni&Guy in Australia, started with an apprenticeship then got my position where I was working I just work on the floor right after finishing the apprentice.

After being on the floor for a couple of years I wanted to do something different not just work in hair salon. In meanwhile Toni&Guy gave me so much opportunities to be outside of the salon such as working at backstage collection launches, backstage at fashion shows, hair care product campaign all the hairstylists can dream of.

Then I decide to move US to pursue my dream to get my own celebrity and able to travel with my career. When I was ready to work as hairstylist I started to DM, emails celeb hairstylist, their agents, their management like insanely crazy.

Today I’ve been working with him for one year and four months, with him I get to see more people and connections. He likes to push himself out of his comfort zone a lot, and since I’m his assistant I have to push further than him so I can meet his expectation or higher. I’m grateful today to be here. Without my family, my friends and people around me it would’ve been a lot more difficult to be here where I am. Actually, it’s been three years in LA so far I feel I’m getting lots of love people around me which feels like LA is my home!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?

I came into LA just right before the Pandemic hits. So it really did impact me as I wanted to get a cosmetology license soon as possible, but pandemic made everything stop then I was not able to go cosmetology school and apply for test. So I had to wait to everything back to normal to get my written and practical test.

I’m sure it wasn’t easy to come to where I am now. But I’m sure it happens for all reasons and I’m very thankful to all my people who are unconditionally loves and supports my dream and career this far!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I specialize in mostly styling side which is hair cut, blow-dry, up style and hair extensions. I love giving hair that is Natural vive to their own texture and that is my strength. But I also do love push myself to see my limits of creativity.

I know I have eight years of experience as a hairstylist working in Salon. But, in LA I’m a new and emerging hairstylist. Which is I get to start from the bottom some people think it’s waste of time or not worth it. but I love that I’m in the position that I can ask and question anything. Because you are learning lots of tips and tricks from the best hairstylists.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?

I definitely going to be independent and start to build my own celebrity clients and I always dreamt of traveling places with my work such as go tour around with them, working at fashion shows backstage and even do their hair on big events. For sure, it will happen in the short future. And far future, I will have my own products for anything but not hair (maybe or maybe not). Not sure about what I’m going to do but I’m aiming to be like Jen Atkin like she is my role model. I actually came to LA to work with Jen Atkin (I only worked with her once just for a day, at Toni&Guy cosmetology school event and I will never forget that moment with her) I’m just such a workaholic that I will love to make myself very busy and motivated to do more. And to keep myself busy and motivated I see myself to do achieve more future goals to where I want to be.
