Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessy Richmond
Hi Jessy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My path into the film industry started way back [when I was a kid]. My aunt worked at Columbia Pictures, so I would tag along and get a behind-the-scenes look at how productions came together. I also got to visit places like MTV and Nickelodeon, which made me more obsessed with storytelling. Even then, I was always carrying around a Kodak disposable camera, capturing whatever caught my eye. Fast forward a few years, I launched my own clothing brand and was constantly
searching for the right photographers and filmmakers to bring my vision to life. But nothing ever lived up to what I imagined. So I picked up a camera myself and
started figuring it out. I always say I graduated from YouTube University because that’s where I learned it all, breaking down my favorite creators’ shots, studying
their gear, their lighting, their color choices, and questioning every detail to understand why it worked.
I’ve always been confident in what I can do, I never questioned myself. I kept raising the bar, not just for my work but for myself, staying obsessed with growth
but never getting complacent. More than anything, I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at what I’ve created and feel something, whether that’s a sense of being inspired, alive or driven. I want them to feel that spark, that push to create or start something of their own, to fuel that fire that’s already inside them. For anyone that has that dream to understand that the willingness and power to create already exists within them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I always tell everyone even the girls on my team “we turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.” I truly believe no road is ever easy. Every path comes with its obstacles, especially when you’re just starting out. But it’s all about how you respond. You have to train your mind, your nervous system, to be ready for whatever comes your way. That’s what separates the ones who make it from the ones who don’t.
There have been times I came home excited to edit, only to realize the shots were overexposed or the audio was full of noise. But that’s part of it—you have to put yourself in those situations because that’s the only way you’ll learn. Every mistake teaches you something, and the more you push through, the better you get.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Jessy Richmond, a filmmaker and photographer specializing in high-quality visuals that tell a story. I run Richmond Media Group, where I create compelling
content for artists, brands, and corporations. I’m known for capturing moments in a way that feels real, raw, and intentional. Whether it’s a live concert, a documentary, or a commercial shoot. What sets me apart is my ability to blend storytelling with visuals that not only look stunning but also make people feel something. I don’t just create content, I craft experiences that resonate, inspire, and leave a spark. I’m most proud of how I built my career from the ground up. I taught myself everything, stayed consistent, and never doubted my vision. I always envisioned myself traveling for my work, and now I get to work with artists I admire, travel the world, and inspire others to chase their own creative dreams. I truly believe that slow and steady wins the race, and that creating momentum in everything you do is key.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
There are a few things that really matter to me. The first one being momentum. I’m all about building it, keeping it, and making sure the people around me do the
same. I always say, once you get moving, don’t stop. The second is to capture everything. The moments you live now will one day be all you have to look back on. Experience life, live it, feel it, breathe it. My faith is also a huge part of who I am. I believe in God, and that foundation keeps me grounded.
Right now, I’m in the best place I’ve ever been. I feel at peace, loved, secure, and confident. But more than anything, I’m not doing this just for me. I’m doing it for the people who come across my work. I always remind myself, it’s bigger than me. Maybe someone needed that extra push, that inspiration. Maybe an artist I’m capturing in a film or documentary shares something in an interview that ignites a spark in someone watching. At the end of the day, whether it’s film or photography, I want you to feel something when you see my work.
