Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Greene
Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up outside of Boston, and have always had a passion for performing arts. From elementary school I was dancing, taking vocal lessons and doing theatre, and in middle school I started dancing competitively. Dance was most of my life through middle school and high school and I truly loved it. It was also during that time that I got introduced to yoga. I practiced Bikram Yoga every weekend which culminated in me participating in the USA Yoga competition when I was 17, ranking top 10 in the US. I also hosted a teen talk show on a local broadcast network and booked a commercial, which got me thinking about getting back into acting.
I decided to audition for theatre programs for college and got accepted to the University of Southern California. I came to LA right after high school to attend USC and study theatre and film. I danced on USC’s basketball dance team, Trojan Dance Force. During my freshman year of college I got signed by a manager from a production I was in at school which solidified my future in LA.
I auditioned off and on through college and although I didn’t book anything big, it totally prepared me for the actor hustle post grad. I also knew I didn’t want to pursue dance professionally, but wanted to keep the aspect of movement in my life, so I got certified in fitness and yoga.
Eight years later I’ve never left LA. I am a working SAG actress, and have grown my fitness business from teaching at studios, to international retreats under my brand “Just Let Go” as my initials are JLG.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This is a city and an industry of resilience. It’s not about how many times you get knocked down, but how many you get back up. I’ve been up for numerous big acting jobs that I did not get, taught at yoga studios that shut down, and made it through a pandemic and the SAG strike. Yet I’m still here pursuing what I love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actress and yoga/fitness instructor. In my acting career I have been consistently booking commercials for the past 8 years. Epson, Candy Crush, Honey, Draft Kings, and Nordic Track were some of my favorites. Also Anolon Cookware which has been running for the past year!
In terms of theatrical work, I was in the show Malibu Rescue on Netflix that got me my SAG card. I have also been in numerous indie films, including Two Dancers One Love where I played a ballerina as the younger version of actress Gloria Laino. That project was very special to me because it brought me back to my dance roots and earned awards at numerous international film festivals. Currently you can catch me in Episode 13 of Hollywood Squares on CBS and I just worked on Abbott Elementary.
In all aspects of my career people recognize me for my curly hair and yoga moves!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The beach, hiking, and yoga are my happy places and LA is the haven for that. But I also couldn’t live on a remote island… I love concerts, theatre, fun restaurants, and culture which LA also has. And my friends, I went to college here and my best friends from USC are still my best friends to this day. We’ve all stayed here growing our careers, and families and at the end of the day that is what really makes this city feel like home.
Least favorite part of LA… TRAFFIC!
