Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrard.
Hi Jerrard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
my name’s jerrard. i been makin music over half my life. i previously went by danny watts. did some cool stuff like go on a national tour with jonwayne and emv in 2017.
then i moved “H-Town to Cali like im Robert Horry” Z-Ro, in 2019. yeepppp, i took my leap of faith right before the world shut down…smh.
from then on it was just about carvin my way in this thing we call a music business. i interned at a studio, worked on my music wherever i could, produced some records, wrote A LOT more; all while strugglin to get by. Truly believe that God has blessed me along this path. I would not be here if it wasn’t for Him and the support of genuine people around me.
those years in 2019-2024 really allowed me to find MYSELF. that journey strengthened my relationship with God and my music. i decided to change my artist name to jerrard, because it was the name my mother chose for me. as danny watts i felt closed in. like i had to live up to an expectation that i did sign up for, but didn’t fully understand how limitin it could be.
jerrard gave me freedom to break barriers. to live truly as myself and not worry about livin by what others expect of me.
these days im focused on tellin my story in my own way. i also enjoy bein behind the scenes helpin people craft their stories in a real transparent way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth by any means. I also wouldn’t have it any other way. From havin to turn my car into a studio, then losin my car, losin my apartment, sleepin on couches, ridin my bike 2 hours just to get to work, i’ve done so much just to get by. and in that process i felt myself becomin better at music. and that reason alone drove me to keep goin no matter what.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music artist. I’m forever gonna be rooted in hip hop. Honestly, damn near everything is rap to me. just over different beats with different voices. what i focus on the most is what im sayin in my music. that’s what i take pride in. havin the courage to show the sides of myself that are the hardest to. i don’t think anything sets me apart from others. i’m simply oneouttathebillions.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
“control is in the hands of the one who lets go” – me
i be so afraid to let go of my ideas. n it’s not that i don’t wanna let em go, cuz i do. i just tend to focus on what more i could do to take things up a notch. its like if im gonna expose my vulnerabilities, i at least wanna present em the best ways. n thats truly not the point. the point is to share. give people somethin that helps em feel, help em connect to somethin real.
