Daily Inspiration: Meet Jaz Forte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaz Forte.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started creating mixed media art before I even knew the term for it. I’ve always loved learning and creating, so I taught myself different art mediums without the pressure of mastering any single one. Through curiosity and experimentation, I began to intertwine all the techniques I’ve learned, and that became the foundation of my creative process. I feel like my art is an imperfect conversation between different textures and materials. Nothing makes sense on its own, but they make sense all together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest. But every bump has guided me to creating. My art is a collision of textures, mistakes, experiments, and the emotions I don’t have the words for. Each time I’ve felt lost, I found myself in my art.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work full-time as a Direct Support Professional and Art Mentor, combining hands-on support along with artistic guidance. I specialize in textiles, assisting artists with sewing, weaving, and other techniques with fibers. Outside of work, I create mixed media art rooted in those same methods. I’m known for sewing & embroidering directly onto analog media and then scanning them to create a unique conversation with all the different layers. I’m most proud of my ability to experiment while mixing different materials, textures & techniques. I think what sets me apart is that I let my work evolve organically, allowing both teaching and creating to be collaborative in all my art.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is the supportive art community! I love it when everyone uplifts each other, and it inspires even more art, and the cycle goes on. The city is nothing without the locals. I love LA. I love being from LA. The worst part about our city is the small population of people who think they’re too cool to support one another. Not caring is so lame!
