Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Uno.
Hi Jay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am the CEO of 7 Records, an up and coming indie record label. We have artists that are located all over the USA. I started in the music business at about 14 in a Christian rap group. From there, I took a long break from music and started back again when I met Matthew Aaron (co founder of 7 Records LLC) and we have been making moves ever sense.
With 12 artists on the label and about 15 different employees, 7 Records is looking to take the world over by storm!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been the smoothest, but anything worth having is worth the work so I wouldn’t change anything! All our past mistakes have put us in the position we’re in now. Wouldn’t change it for anything.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well I own a couple of different businesses is the entertainment field. As I expressed earlier, I am 1 of 3 co-founders and the CEO of 7 records LLC. I also own a production company 7 ENTERTAINMENT & MEDIA. We have a couple of shows on YouTube, the most successful at the moment is the 7 spill podcast. The 7 spill won podcast of the year presented by the Connect The Coast awards in 2021. We also won artist of the year (7 Records) as a collective from the same award show. I also put together the first-ever music festival in the 805 area last summer with my partner, Chris the Thr!llest. We had about 35 artists, 21 vendors, and about 200 to 300 fans over a three days period.
In addition, I am apart of a music group, Seven Vicious Nightmares, also signed to 7 records LLC. The duo group of Matthew Aaron (a solo artist on the album & co-founder of 7 records) and myself have opened for some of the biggest artists in the industry from Too Short, Bone Thugs, Dj Quik, Ohgeezy and many more. We have dropped three projects to date as a group:
LOST LANDS
FORBIDDEN FRUIT
LATE NIGHTS IN LIMBO
Later this year, I will be rolling out my solo debut project! Name is still untitled but we have many things in store and a lot of surprises for the world. We are super excited to show everyone what we have going on in the near future! I guess what sets me apart from everyone is the work ethic and the vision. I refuse to be boxed in or cornered. The world is my playground and that’s the mindset I take with me in everything we do as a collective, or I do as a businessman. Dreams are important but hard work, determination, the borderline obsession with waiting to be the best is more important, in my opinion. What sets 7 records apart is the energy & talent. We haven’t seen anything like that of 7 records since Wu Tang Clan, but this is with a totally different spin. There is nothing in the world more energetic and just electrifying than a 7 records show!
We just take pride in ourselves on being perfect, and I think that’s the difference.
What matters most to you? Why?
I have a list of things that matter to me. My daughter is first, without a doubt. That’s my everything, from the day she was born my whole life has been about her and making sure she wants and needs for nothing. Second would be my family. From my brothers that trust me with their lives and careers to my actual blood family: my mother, grandparents, my brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, & cousins. I just want them to be happy and successful in life so I do it for them.
