Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason Dauman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Dauman.

Jason Dauman

Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My career in the music industry started as a song plugger, I was managing a great songwriter who is now in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Albert Hammond. I had met with Diane Warren’s publisher at the time Judy Stakee and we suggested that a combination of Albert and Diane would be significant; they wound up writing many hits together amongst them Nothing’s Gonna’ Stop Us Now by Starship, which was nominated for an Academy Award. They also wrote Ace of Base’s number 1 single Don’t Turn Around, Chicago’s I Don’t Want To Live Without Your Love and Aretha and Elton’s Through the Storm amongst many other hits.

I later went on to place big hit singles with The Pretenders, James Ingram, Bette Midler, and Celine Dion, amongst others.

Song plugging gave me my foot in the door in this creative community, but later on I started my own record label and Billboard recognized us as the #6 record label for the year on the last Billboard year-end Dance Club chart.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think in any business, you have to deal with the natural obstacles of each industry on a daily basis. I have a few songs that I believe could’ve charted higher than they did and I have a few brilliant songs that never found a home, but generally speaking, things progressed much faster than I anticipated.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in A&R services, marketing and promoting records. We’ve had hundreds of chart hits around the world and a couple of Grammy nominations along the way. What sets me apart from others is a laser focus on the song itself.

All my clients are considered by me to be an extended family, and all the producers, remixers, and songwriters who I work with too. I have nothing but great appreciation and admiration to everyone I work with.

I have a great team that works with me and it’s truly a collaborative process.

A high percentage of the artists I work with it’s their first record and I enjoy being there from the start.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The love of music.
