Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Aronson.
Jamie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I started:
I got my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Central Florida. I didn’t know I wanted to be an actress until age 20, and I began acting at 22. At 25, I learned that I need to hone other skills of filmmaking so I can make my own opportunities.
Where I am today:
As 2025 wraps up, I find myself reflecting on the year. I spent the first 6 months or so as Director’s Assistant to Patrick Wilcox. My biggest accomplishment in that job was putting together a filmed table read. I sourced the location (Echobend Pictures), crew, and a cast of 12 actors including BoJesse Christopher (Point Break), Monnie Aleahmad (The Studio), Mike McNamara, Manny Martinez Hernandez, and Eric Miller. I was elated to also have Osy Ikhile (Black Mirror), thanks to Patrick!
I had my directorial debut in August 2025 for a short film called The Art of Rejection, which won Best Actress for my lead Liz Fenning’s stunning performance! The film also stars Isaac C. Singleton Jr. (Pirates of the Caribbean), Barry Papick, and Duy Beck. Besides directing, I have also helped cast 5 projects in 2025. I have been dabbling in screenwriting, as I am co-writing 3 different projects with various friends. Acting is going great as well. I got my first manager in September 2025. Between my manager (Gina Stoj) and agent (Anita McKorn of Eris Talent Agency), I have been getting a few auditions every week (sometimes 3-4 in one day!). I have been filming regularly with at least one project per month for the second half of 2025. There was one moment where I acted in 4 projects in one week! Another cool experience I had was runway modeling for a fashion show on a DTLA rooftop. As far as acting, I have been making pilots, proof of concepts, verticals, short films, and a feature. I even made a stop-motion short with the legendary Sethward from America’s Got Talent. It took me 13 years to get my first SAG voucher, but that was a wonderful recent milestone I reached in November. Before 2025, I had never seen my short films screen anywhere except for those I’ve only acted in. 2025 was very special because besides a few shorts that I acted in, I got to screen 3 short films I either wrote, directed, produced, or all of the above (I acted in all of them too, of course).
There have also been some interesting business developments. Together with Henry Priest (Film Festival at Hollywood Park), I provided a filming location (The Kult LA) for a film called Help Me starring Adrian Grenier (Entourage) and produced by Jiarui Guo (The Brutalist). It was incredible being on set knowing one year prior, I painted a mural and produced the LA premiere there of A Divorce Story (the feature film I starred in that won Best Feature Film in the English Language at 2 festivals and is on Amazon, Tubi, etc.). For more fun news, I’ve teamed up with Jeff Gund of InfoList, the cofounders of ScriptHop (Scott Foster and Brian Austin), Shane Black (Ironman 3), and Jim Herzfeld (Meet the Parents). I have been hand-delivering the scripts that make it through their program called the Gauntlet to high level executives at big agencies and whatnot. It has been a blast! I have a discount code for any screenwriters out there wishing to submit to the Gauntlet. You can message me on Instagram.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been anything but smooth. I know some people who become SAG Eligible in their first year of acting. After 13 years, I just got my first voucher out of 3. And as of the date of this interview, I have never booked a paid acting gig from an audition. Thank goodness for my community of friends, as everything I’ve ever booked is through referrals! This is saying a lot since I audition regularly, but I also work on set regularly. I find it remarkable. I have moved out to Los Angeles 3 times now. I’ve left because of lack of funds, created side quests like Cosmetology school and Reiki certification, and then I’ve run into major obstacles when I’ve come back, making it challenging to climb out of the financial hole. Move 2 was right before the pandemic, and Move 3 was right before the strikes and the fires. I haven’t been able to afford a car since I’ve been back which marks 2.5 years. Of course, there are always many other challenges that come with life. So to say the least, it has felt like one big struggle with wins here and there. So, it means a lot to me to reflect on all the wins and realize how far I’ve come! I am so proud of my grit and tenacity to reach my goals and dreams, and I look forward to it getting more manageable in time. I have no family in CA, so my hope is to make enough money that I can travel to the east coast to see them more so that my life can be more balanced.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actress and filmmaker. I specialize in deadpan comedy, family drama/ Hallmark type, period pieces, and psychological thrillers. I focus on film/tv rather than theatre. I’m known for my dry and dark humor, as well as my ever-growing network of creatives and financial executives. People often compliment me on my friend group and networking skills. I am extremely discerning on who I give my energy to, as I am warm, supportive, and generous when I feel safe to be. I attract good people, and I love to connect them with others in my community. I think of it as match-making but for film industry folks rather than love matches. I think it’s what makes me a good producer. And I think my background in acting is what makes me a good director. The two together make me good at casting.
Other than the film industry roles, I have other skills I exercise. I made a video podcast called the Starlight Network Podcast on my Youtube channel where I interview film industry people from my network about what has worked for them, including practical and spiritual factors. Speaking of spirituality, I do Reiki energy healing and tarot. Furthermore, my day jobs have created administrative skills such as project management and Quality Assurance. I have a background in digital marketing as well. Altogether, my skills have made me an intuitive consultant in various areas. I call myself a term I made up which is “Creative Energy Coach.” On top of everything else, I also cut hair! I have some regulars and am taking on new clients, too.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me is attention to detail. When it’s overlooked, it can cause major problems at worst or create annoyances and grievances at best. But when it’s embraced, it is much appreciated and makes a person stand out. I find it to be important on a daily basis.
