Daily Inspiration: Meet James Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Bailey.

Hi James, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I used my mental health issues (OCD) in a positive way! And now working to get a movie done on my new book. Oscar-winner Mel Brooks has a blurb and a chapter in my new book. My book details how I used my OCD to sell books. I would not leave a bookstore unless I sold at least one copy of my first book. I lived in my car and would catch bus after bus to cover all bookstores in L.A. Along the way, I met Bob Dylan and many famous and infamous people and persuaded them to purchase my book. I ended up selling thousands of books, add to that, numerous heartfelt encounters in my infinite journey, “One book at a time” and ended up with a movie option. It’s my wild and quirky story will uplift not only those dealing with issues but, dreams come true if you make them come true!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh my God, you got a few years? I had severe OCD and ended up in a psychiatric hospital (the one with no bars and a curfew) I attempted suicide many moons ago and suffered from severe anxiety and depression. It’s a miracle I’m still around but I turned things around and faced my fears and wrote a best-selling book and acting again and so forth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write books and screenplays and act. I guess the most proud I get about myself as when I get intimidated by confronting someone about my books to promote etc. I force myself to start a conversation.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the beaches and the Grove and the busses and the subways and the sun. The thing I don’t like are rude people. Always be humble and kind is my motto and sometimes in a big city, I’m asking too much.
