Today we’d like to introduce you to Jairo Tomico.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first came to L.A. about a decade ago for a summer job with a startup app, and somewhere along the way, it just became home. I work in graphic design and marketing, so being in a creative city made sense — but finding community wasn’t easy. At first, I kept my conservative beliefs quiet, fearing it might close doors. Growing up in Texas as an only child, I’ve always had an independent streak and a quiet drive to prove people wrong.
In 2020, during the pandemic, I attended gatherings where people shared frustrations and realized I wasn’t alone. A year later, I launched my media outlet ‘Right Now Views’ to share perspectives often missing in mainstream media. Filming all sides, I saw shared passion and impressive organizing skills, which helped me appreciate the complexity of the issues.
I worked for a gubernatorial candidate during the 2021 recall election of Governor Newsom and helped collect signatures for the recall effort itself. In 2022 I began working with conservative candidates in Los Angeles during the midterms on design, branding, and websites. During that period I also started organizing events across L.A., from rallies and protests to group hikes and meetups.
Eventually, I saw the need for something more structured in my area and started the Hollywood Republican Assembly (HRA), a new chapter of the California Republican Assembly. We’re bringing conservatives in Hollywood and surrounding neighborhoods together unapologetically — to connect, organize, and take real action.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Standing up for conservative values in Los Angeles — especially in Hollywood — comes with real risks. I’ve been physically assaulted because of my beliefs, and there have been counter-protests at events I’ve organized. Some of my friends who’ve come out to support have also faced violence and intimidation just for being associated with those events.
Beyond the physical risks, there’s also the professional side. Sometimes I think about potential employers or clients looking me up and deciding not to work with me because of my conservative views and activism. It’s something I’m aware of, but it doesn’t hold me back.
Those challenges are part of what pushed me to start the Hollywood Republican Assembly. The hostility only made it more clear how important it is to create a community where conservatives can stand together openly and safely. That’s the purpose behind the HRA — to offer connection, support, and strength in a place where it’s needed most.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in grassroots organizing and community-building in Los Angeles. A lot of people first discovered my work through @rightnowviews, where I cover activism and on-the-ground events. Others know me from the many protests, rallies, and community events I’ve organized or shown up to over the years. I’ve been present — both online and in the streets — that’s helped me build connections across L.A.
This July, I founded the Hollywood Republican Assembly, and we’re focused on building a bold presence in Hollywood. I also leverage my background in graphic design and marketing to amplify our message and reach a wider audience.
Turning ideas into action by organizing and attending events, combined with capturing viral videos and firsthand coverage, has been a driving force behind what I do. Knowing that my efforts reach others and encourage dialogue is a big part of what motivates me.
What are your plans for the future?
Our goal is for the Hollywood Republican Assembly to have an impact throughout Los Angeles by hosting events, supporting like-minded candidates, encourage leadership development to empower community members to run for office, and increase voter registration to strengthen our community’s influence.
I’ll also be using the skills and knowledge I gained from recently graduating from the Los Angeles Film School with a degree in Entertainment Business to help expand our reach in media and entertainment.
On a personal level, I’m going to continue growing my online presence and staying politically active, focusing on real stories often ignored by mainstream media. Using my creative skills to push the conversation forward is important to me.
