Daily Inspiration: Meet Ian Charlie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Charlie.

Hi Ian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when I was only in the 3rd grade. My eldest brother who happened to be studying abroad came home for his school break/holiday. He had a Yamaha Acoustic Guitar that I will never forget for it was one of my favorites and the one that started it all for me. With that being said It was a Yamaha FG-300. He then taught me a few chords and how to hold the guitar properly.

I fell in love with it within a few moments of the guitar being in my hands. I’m not sure how else to describe this feeling I had but it gave me life and a voice I didn’t know existed. He happened to gift me with that guitar later on! After I had a guitar I started taking classical guitar lessons to assure I had the correct training on the instrument.

My passion for music grew faster over the years and I had dreams of becoming a real guitar hero. Clearly, that changed over time and I had more dreams and goals with the guitar but it was a great first dream with it. There was still something more I had to offer and that was to become a composer/producer.

I’ll never forget that day when I finally realized my overall goal with the guitar and music. When I was attending the Berklee College of Music, I happened to take my first arranging for horns class in which my arrangements were played by live musicians!

That feeling for the first time was a feeling I’ll never forget. To hear something you took hours to write then put into reality was something I’ve never experienced. I knew from that moment on, this is what I was put here on earth to do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it was easy but it was very challenging. And yes, there were bumps on the road. A lot of ups and downs. But when you put your 100% focus and your positive of energy out, a positive result will always happen and it has.

I want the world to know that in order to be at the top, we need to not be afraid being seen starting from the bottom. We all start somewhere, Ignore all the outside noise, focus on yourself, focus on your craft and being a genuine person always has positive results. Be patient and consistent and you will thrive more not only in your craft but in life as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a music producer, I’m proud of everything I produce and create. It’s what I feel and what my energy is at that current time and place. I never half-ass on anything I do. I was taught to always give it your 100% best because you never know who may call for the next gig.

I never give up and always keep pushing along even when I can’t find reasons why. I practice almost every day and I eat breath and dream about my goals and the only way I get them and will get them is by less talk and more focus on consistency of my work.

I got to where I am today not only by my talent and hard work but by those who are my close friends. My friends are those I also network with and trust. There’s only one way to get your name out in the world and get where you want to be and hard work and knowing the right people who’ve also put in the same amount of work or even more.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think being on the right place and the right time takes a big part of it. I’m a strong believer of consistency. Without consistency, you will see no results from your work. Consistency is so important for a musician and without it, we wouldn’t be successful. Consistency shows that you put the hard work and discipline into your craft and people will see your skills immediately instead of having to search “why should I hire them”.
