Daily Inspiration: Meet Hunter Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Phoenix.

Hi Hunter, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into the entertainment industry started like many others, with a dream and a lot of excitement – not really knowing how I was going to make this happen but pretty sure that I would! I had no idea what I was doing or how the business worked. In retrospect, I look back at just how naïve I was. But I was also hungry and determined.
I started as an actor and model, working across multiple countries, learning the ropes, and navigating the ups and downs of the industry firsthand. I loved the craft, but I quickly realized how difficult it was to find solid, actionable advice — especially the kind that went beyond the “follow your dreams” rhetoric.

That frustration was actually the seed that grew into MyActorGuide.com Albeit many years later. I kept thinking, “Why isn’t there one place that breaks all this down clearly — from headshots to agents to on-set etiquette?” I’d spent years piecing it together through trial and error, and painstaking embarrassment and I knew I wasn’t alone!

After years of coaching other actors, I realized there was only so much I could do, and so many people I could help on that small of scale, so I decided to build the best online resource in the biz for the biz!

I launched MyActorGuide.com as a free online resource for aspiring and working actors — especially those who were just starting out and feeling overwhelmed. I wanted to create the kind of guide I wish I’d had when I was beginning. It started with just a few blog posts and tips, but it quickly grew. Now it’s become a trusted hub for actors all over the world looking for real-world advice on building a career in film and television.
The response has been incredible, and it’s deeply rewarding to know that something I created is helping others step confidently into their dreams and new careers. That’s really what this is about for me — giving actors the tools, knowledge, and encouragement to pursue their passions without getting lost in the heartbreak and disappointment.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Lol! Not even close. But I honestly believe that’s what makes the journey worthwhile. I’ve never heard anyone ever say that there is a straight line to success, much like there are no straight lines in nature. If you ever see a straight line, you know it’s something that was constructed by humans not by the natural powers of the universe.
In terms of acting and my career, there were definitely moments, many of them, where I questioned what I was doing — both in my acting career and in launching MyActorGuide.com. When you’re trying to carve out your own path, especially in an industry that’s notoriously competitive and unpredictable, you’re going to face setbacks. There have been so many times throughout my career when I felt completely lost and even helpless. I didn’t know where to go for reliable advice. I’ve got caught up in fraudulent schemes by disreputable agents and managers. And I have made plenty of mistakes! Just because, like any newbie, I didn’t know any better. That lack of guidance and those deeply humbling, harsh, and humiliating experiences, were all huge motivators for me to start the site.

And building a resource like My Actor Guide came with its own set of challenges. I had self-taught myself web design early in my career, but this involved a little more coding than I had anticipated, content marketing, analytics, SEO (search engine optimization) — things that had nothing to do with being on camera, but everything to do with improving discoverability as well as making the platform accessible and successful. It was a ton of work, all done while juggling my own career, working, auditions and everything else that comes with being a working actor in one of the top two major markets in the world.
There were definitely long nights and weekends spent purged uncomfortably at my desk, absorbed in the screen, obsessing over functionality tweaks optimizing design and search functions. And I have hundreds of ideas for articles I just haven’t had time to write! But every once in a while an actor let’s me know that one of my articles helped them land their first agent or get through their first audition, or book their first job. The joy they exude takes me back to my own beginning and that keeps me going.

The truth is, no path worth taking is ever smooth. But every challenge has taught me something valuable — about resilience, creativity, and the importance of creating a community. And that’s what I try to offer with My Actor Guide: a little more clarity, a little more support, and a reminder that none of us has to figure it all out alone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I’m an actor — that’s always been the foundation of everything I do. But over the years, my career has evolved into something much broader. I still work in front of the camera, but now I also wear the hats of writer, producer, entrepreneur, and mentor. Through MyActorGuide.com, I specialize in helping actors navigate the business side of acting — things like finding representation, understanding casting breakdowns, building a strong online presence, and creating a career roadmap that actually works in the real world.

I’m best known for breaking things down in a way that’s straightforward and honest. The entertainment industry can feel overwhelming and elusive — like there’s some secret handbook you’re not getting access to unless you know the right people. I wanted to change that. I created My Actor Guide to be the no-BS version of that handbook: free, accessible, and packed with real-world info you can actually use.

What I’m most proud of is the impact it’s had. I regularly get messages from actors saying, “I didn’t even know where to start until I found your site,” or “Your post helped me finally book something after years of trying.” That means everything to me. I’ve been there. I know what it feels like to want it so badly and not know what step to take next. Being able to be that guide for someone else — to be part of the turning point in their journey — is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is that I’ve actually lived this. I’ve worked in multiple markets, across different countries, and worn many hats in the industry. I bring both the creative and the practical — and I genuinely care. My goal isn’t just to give advice, it’s to empower people to believe in themselves and take action with confidence. Because when you combine talent with direction and consistency, amazing things can happen!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
