Daily Inspiration: Meet Hannah Carman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Carman

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an actress, singer and film producer that’s originally from Sydney Australia, but moved to Los Angeles in 2022 to do an acting conservatory program. After moving back to Australia for a bit, I came back to LA again in 2024 to continue my film and music work in the US. The most recent project I’ve starred in is a dark comedy film titled ‘Queens of the Desert’. The film is one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve ever worked on and centers around an all-female cast of women in the 1980s who compete in beauty pageants. It’s now being developed into a TV series for 2025.

At the moment I’m currently based in Vancouver Canada, where I’m continuing to do my acting, singing and production work while also taking regular trips down to LA. I’m developing a production company with one of my best friends and long-time collaborators Harriette St Ledger, where we’re focusing on creating films and shows that are focused on the unique stories of women and other marginalized groups.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a career in a creative field such as film and television is almost never a smooth road.
I think for me personally, the biggest struggle has been having to be so far away from home to pursue my career in North America. It can very tough being so far away from my family and friends, especially when you’re only really coming home once a year. That’s something I’ve had to come to terms with this past year, and that has been difficult since I love my Aussie family and friends so much.

Despite that challenge being painful, that pain of missing loved ones has been able to inform my creative work in a way that’s allowed my most recent work to feel the most authentic it’s ever felt.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In terms of the film work that I specialize in, I’ve done multiple musical films over the last couple of years. I’ve grown up with and loved musical theatre my whole life, so being able to incorporate that into my film projects has been so fulfilling. The first film that I ever produced, wrote and starred in is called ‘The Five Stages’, and is one of the projects I’m most proud of. The project had a film festival run in 2023 and got selected into multiple international film festivals, winning awards such as ‘Best Performances’ at the Experimental, Dance & Music Film Festival in Toronto and ‘Best Art Film’ at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival in Greece.

This year I’ve also gotten more involved in creating my own music, and worked in the studio with multiple music producers in LA. I love pop music with R&B influences, so have been creating stuff with that sound and it’s been so much fun. I would love to start releasing some of that heading into 2025.

Any big plans?
At the moment I’m working on an exciting new horror film titled ‘Blink’, which is about a forbidden love in a twisted cult. It’s going to be set in a very remote, rural part of Canada. My producing partner for this film, Vancouver-based creative Taylor Long, and I are planning to be shooting this early next year in regional British Columbia. I plan to be shooting the full-length version of ‘Queens of the Desert’ as well, which will be very exciting.

I also plan to release some music hopefully next year, which is something I’ve been planning on doing for years but I finally feel ready for.
