Today we’d like to introduce you to Gio Bravo.
Gio, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Im a Latino transgender guy from Los Angeles. Singer and songwriter, I have always been very passionate about music but was never comfortable in my own skin until I began transitioning. That’s when I felt empowered and I decided to go after my dreams in music. It has been very challenging being the 1st male transgender artist in both Regional Mexican and Reggeaton, but it is definitely my passion and something vim very proud of.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, As an out Latino transman in the music industry, making music in genres like Regional Mexican and Reggeaton, that are traditionally very masculine genres. It has been such an enormous challenge to have people in the industry on a professional level actually consider my music and my efforts and be willing to look beyond who I am as a person.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter for Spanish music, Regional Mexican and Reggeaton.
I am the first transgender male artist in both genres and that is something I am very proud of.
How do you define success?
The day that I host a concert and I hear the audience singing my song in unison, as one voice, that is the day I will feel like a successful artist.
