Daily Inspiration: Meet Ginger Britt Daniels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginger Britt Daniels.

Hi Ginger, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been dancing since age 5 and singing and acting, and piano lessons came a couple of years after. I made my mark in New York City after attending Stephens College in Columbia, MO the first year on a dance scholarship. The first week I lived in New York, I booked a Wendy’s commercial, a reputable modern dance company job, and an Off-Broadway musical production of For Me And My Gal. I worked steadily in New York, performing in National Tours of West Side Story, Anything Goes, and The Who’s Tommy, where one night by chance I got to sing with Roger Daltrey. After booking some substantial film/tv roles in New York, I made the big move to Los Angeles. I learned to play the drums for a role in an indie horror film, which led to me touring in a girl band when I wasn’t get acting gigs. I have taught jazz dance, coached actors, and helped professional singers with vocal trouble, ways in which to open their bodies in order to overcome obstacles. I had some personal setbacks that interfered with my progression forward as an actress which caused me to step away from that path for a while. In 2019, however, I realized that acting was something that I could not live without., something I was born for. During the pandemic in 2020, I wrote a short film, Not Like The Other Girls, a crime-based female-driven cop mystery/drama set in Brooklyn, NY. In 2021 I made this film with some exceptional people and we’ve just been accepted to our first film festival selection, WRPN Women’s International Film Festival in the subcategory for Best Actress for me, which I humbly accept. This film was inspired by my true-life childhood, as well as British crime dramas that my director, Lain Ewing, and I coincidentally love, particularly Broadchurch and Happy Valley as the brilliant Sarah Lancashire is my favorite actress. I have recently written a feature-length thriller that is a spy espionage story with women, and at its core has a lesbian love story which I hope to make a proof of concept for next year. This piece has been getting lots of attention in screenplay competitions, so it’s only a matter of time. I am also busy writing a limited series musical/drama for television. At the end of this month, my cover of “Unchain My Heart” music video will be released where I sing and play drums with my band, Ginger Daniels Band. You can hear my music on Spotify and Apple Music and watch all my videos and films my production company, GingerPants Productions has made on YouTube.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been smooth for me. While my younger years seemed effortless, some personal life setbacks caused me to pause and re-evaluate for a few years. During this time, I thought I didn’t need to act but soon learned that it was something that I just could not live without. It is difficult to re-enter this world of acting, but I know it’s what I’m meant for so believe, believe, believe, no matter what.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am primarily an actress though I write screenplays as well as music. I have written at least 20 songs and I am proud to say that some of my music has been recognized in film. I think what sets me apart from others is that whatever it is I’m doing…acting, singing, songwriting, writing, producing, dancing, I give it 5000 percent. My prep work is somewhat obsessive, but that’s just so that when I walk onto the set it feels so completely second nature to me that I can be in a state of play and discovery with my costars and truly support them in a way that benefits the whole entire project. I love finding what works as a team with my crew as well. Also, kindness and generosity within the confines of self-preservation are key to establishing healthy relationships.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I truly love with all of my heart, sometimes to a fault, but I’m learning how to set up better boundaries with those that want to take too much from me. I am a 20-year chanting Buddhist, so that helps.
