Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene Copley.
Hi Gene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well it will started when I was a kid around 9 I was interested in music but still not sure of what I wanted to play so my brother took me to go see led zeppelin in 1977 and after I seen John Bonham play the solo to moby dick. I was hooked. So I asked my mom to buy me a drum set and my musical journey began. Over the years I played with various tribute bands in highschool. Then in 1985 I met my now guitar player Robert Tyler who was looking for a drummer. So we jammed a little it went no where. Then as I got older we lost contact. I moved up north for awhile played again with several bands. But just for fun. Then I ran into Robert Tyler again in 2000 we started doing acoustic with bongos and performing at coffee shops. Then in 2006 we decided we wanted to do rock n roll so we formed 3 days in the grave. And in forming 3 days in the grave I played the whisky a go go in Hollywood I got nominated from the Josie music awards out of Nashville 4 years straight. I’ve been on internet radio done podcast interviews and also opened up for some big names like enuff z nuff Dio Disciples etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well it was hard in the beginning. Trying to make a name for myself and not being noticed right away. But the show must go on so we continued and finally are getting more recognition and becoming more popular
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well I’m a musician so in that I become very creative and my proud moment is when I finally achieved my dream or playing at the whisky a go go and headlining it twice. And what sets me apart from others is my confidence and creativity through my music
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Well work hard and stay focused. Get to know your instrument . And always remember dreams do come true especially if you want it bad enough
