Daily Inspiration: Meet Folklaur Chevrier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Folklaur Chevrier.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What a journey! While I thoroughly enjoy working in front of the camera, I have always had an infinite curiosity of filmmaking; the whole creative process from conception to completion. I knew pivoting at the time and pursuing uncharted territory would definitely present major challenges, however, I certainly didn’t know just how arduous. To be multifaceted or cross-over at the time was not common nor understood like it totally is now, where the industry has evolved. Long ago I distinctly recall a prominent talent agent once tell me I had to make a choice; am I an actress or a sports broadcaster? You see, I had my credentials and was co-hosting a weekly nighttime Sports & Entertainment radio show. I just didn’t understand why I couldn’t work on my craft and continue with broadcasting simultaneously? I thought, wasn’t I a more versatile client? What did I decide? I explored another interest and forged my own path to becoming a producer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has never been a smooth road for a moment, literally. Struggles is an understatement. Setbacks and obstacles that I couldn’t possibly foresee. I knew I had a strong mindset, I never knew just how tenacious until I was faced with numerous obstacles. Mindset is everything. I believe there’s a positive factor in every negative experience, even if just an aspect.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been working on a passion project for well over a decade, but what seems like forever! To tell you the truth, it has been so much more than what one may refer to as a “passion project” because of its importance. This astonishing true story must be told and I’m providing a medium for the victim’s voice to be heard. Furthermore, for the family, whom are survivors of the most devastating tragedy to share their unvarnished truth once and for all. It is my singular intention and greatest hope that by producing this documentary feature, it will not only be thought-provoking, informative and highly entertaining of course, more importantly, provide a platform for socially impactful causes and help others. The audience is enthralled with true crime and I bet the viewers who become online detectives will be quite curious and run wild with their theories.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Is this a serious question or a light-hearted one? Let’s see, I don’t drink. I have tasted alcohol once in my entire life, I think I was 19 and never again. I don’t have any particular reason for it, I just don’t drink. I can’t tell you how many times I get asked why or what happened. Maybe I should make up some jaw-dropping story for shock value because that’s what it feels like the person asking is in anticipation of 😉

On a serious note, my humanitarian efforts is of most importance to me and rewarding beyond measure. My purpose is to help and impart a positive difference in the lives of others or even if it’s just one person. It’s an honor to be an advocate for The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (www.protectchildren.ca).
