Daily Inspiration: Meet Filip Sertic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Filip Sertic.

Hi Filip, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My path was very old-fashioned. I studied acting on Academy of Dramatic Arts where I got my Bachelors and Master’s degree. That opened me some doors and I started working in a professional theater. Theater slowly led to the first jobs on TV and Film. After years of successful carrier in Europe, I decided to move to the world capital of movies, Los Angeles and continue my carrier here. I live for this industry, it still excites me every day and I absolutely love my job so it is a blessing to live and work here, in the city where everything is about movies and entertainment. What a place to be.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being an artist is full of struggles. Actors really do have to develop thick skin. You will hear no most of the times. But I’m focused on what I love about this industry, primarily the talented people that I have the opportunity to work with. Meeting and collaborating with other artists that are passionate and talented makes me really happy. Every struggle is the opportunity to grow and what I love about being an actor is that by working on your craft you actually work on yourself. And that is my goal, becoming a better human being and understanding myself and others better. And then hopefully show that understanding and the core of human emotions on the screen.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
With the background in theater I’m focused on TV and film right now. My most notable projects are TV show Black and White World and film For the Good Old Times that I did in Europe but I’m very excited about the few projects that will be released this year. My first American feature film, This Game is Called Murder starring Ron Perlman was such an honor to be a part of. It’s a very interesting and unique story, full of violence, betrayal, and sex, set in a world ruled by technology and social media. Something you haven’t seen before. Also, another feature Baby Money by Mikhael Bassilli should come out sometime this year. It is a very suspenseful story that was so much fun to shoot. Our sound editor Phillip Bladh just won an Oscar the other day so we are very proud. I just finished shooting short movie Why Don’t You Like Me by a young director Ira Storrozhenko that is gonna be amazing, it was a pleasure working with her, she is going to be a big name in this industry soon. TV series Shitfer was also so much fun to work on. Matt Marder is so talented and the story is unbelievable. It was a good year despite the pandemic. Besides strong education in acting, I speak French, Russian and Croatian and can do accents for each language. I guess those are my strengths. But I also do stunts, stage combat, tap dance and hip hop. I’m working on myself daily so I can contribute to the projects I’m working on. This is such a competitive business that you always have to be on a top of the game.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
It was really exciting to work on the Weeknd’s music video In Your Eyes since I’m a huge fan of his music. Those kinds of unexpected collaborations are the reason why I love Los Angeles. It’s full of artists and you never know who you’re gonna work with tomorrow. Everything is possible in this city.
