Daily Inspiration: Meet Ferrari Sheppard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ferrari Sheppard.

Ferrari Sheppard

Hi Ferrari, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been an artist. My first exhibit was when I was in kindergarten. My work was chosen for temporary display at the Art Institute of Chicago. That exhibit would foreshadow the rest of my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most human beings, I’ve overcome many struggles. The biggest one was poverty and systemic racial disparities. I was raised by a single mother during the height of America’s so-called war on drugs, and I survived many life-and-death situations. I’m grateful to have made it out of that, but unfortunately, many of my peers didn’t. Besides socioeconomic challenges, I had to eventually break into the art world, which wasn’t easy. The most challenging part, aside from finding my own unique style, was building a comprehensive body of work that inspires scholarship and conversation.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional contemporary artist based in Los Angeles. I’ve lived in LA for five years. My work has been shown around the world and is in permanent museum collections, both in the United States and abroad. I’ve exhibited in London, Paris, New York, Rome, and Brussels, among many other cities.

I’m grateful to have a platform to express myself and earn a living doing what I love.

What matters most to you? Why?
Humanity and the youth matter to me. The world can be a scary, horrible place, depending on where you stand. What matters to me is making it a little better. I believe I do that through philanthropy and my work. If I can inspire young person to keep going, to pursue their dreams, I am fulfilled.
