Today we’d like to introduce you to Evannah V
Hi Evannah , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m EvannahV, a Belizean-American singer, songwriter, and lifestyle creator who blends Caribbean rhythms with modern sounds. Growing up between Belize and Chicago, I was shaped by my cultural heritage and fine arts school upbringing. Music runs deep in my family—my grandmother had a music school on the South Side of Chicago, now I collaborate with my sister, Micah, creating fusion music and an independent label that bridges worlds.
I’ve performed across Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, and Chicago. I joined songwriting camps, became a Grammy mentee. I’ve written for Wanz and was honored by my college in the honor expedition at Columbia College Chicago.
Now, I’m focused on rebranding and preparing for my pre-debut, where I’ll bring my fusion sound to the world—a mix of culture, music, and fashion that’s uniquely me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but the challenges have shaped who I am today. Growing up between Chicago and Belize came with its own set of obstacles. I often felt torn between two worlds, balancing my Belizean roots with the pace of Chicago’s urban life. Music wasn’t always easy to pursue, especially in spaces that didn’t fully understand or appreciate the fusion of cultures I was bringing into my sound.
Additionally, working to establish myself in a competitive industry meant pushing through doubts and rejections. It wasn’t always easy to get noticed, and it took time to build a brand and find opportunities like working with major names or getting into songwriting camps and attending SXSW and meeting industries professionals along the way . But with every setback came a lesson, and I’ve learned to stay focused on my vision.
Today, I’m more confident in my unique sound, and those challenges only make me appreciate the wins even more. It’s all part of the journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m proud to have reached many exciting milestones along a journey that’s taken me from Chicago to the vibrant stages of Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala. One of my favorite achievements was having my track “Gasoline”—co-written with my sister Micah (King Micah)—featured for Ram Trucks at the State Fair of Texas. I’ve learned from Grammy mentors, walked red carpets for the Grammys and I Heart Radio, and performed in unforgettable venues from Six Flags to Belize Day in Chicago. Whether launching a SXSW speakeasy showcase at Columbia College Chicago or interning with 247HH at events like Lollapalooza, each step has fueled my passion for blending Caribbean flair, pop, and world music.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those just starting out, embrace every opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to take risks, whether you’re performing locally or expanding your horizons. Have fun, learn your business, and network with others. Stay focused on your vision—it won’t always be easy, but it will be exciting. Be true to yourself, and remember that every step counts in the journey.
